A stiff drink with good company, smoke breaks, a good read, quality film, smoke breaks, another drink, live music from those who are really feelin' it, can I get another drink, long talks in front of large windows, long walks through the streets of London, Paris, Amsterdam, old friends, smoke breaks, spending all day in bed (you know what I'm talkin' about), men who cook, smoke breaks, getting drunk with my mom and hearing all the good shit from her childhood and mine, long drives through flat country then mountains then desert with mixed CD soundtracks, smoke breaks--is it happy hour yet?
Anyone who has something to teach me, which is basically everyone (even if they don't know it).
I am no good at listing (see memory problems), but I will say this--I know it when I hear it. If it moves me, then I am into it. So, now, racking my brain, here's something: air, Elliott Smith, Josh Rouse, Tom Waits, Coldplay, Beatles, Massive Attack, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill (are they even still together??), Pink Floyd--this is so pointless. You get the idea?
I will quote the Big Lebowski all day long. I love films that make me think, ponder, or shed light on the reality of our existence--suggestions welcome.
Law & Order, baby. Reality TV sucks--someone get these people some reality! (No, I won't deny that I submitted a video to be on the Apprentice, but they denied me so screw them.) HBO Original Series, especially Six Feet Under (see "shed light on this existence" comment, above). Trying to cut back generally.
I won't leave home without my copy of Ranier Maria Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet. I love correspondence books, generally--letters contain all kinds of honesty and nuggets of truth. Invaluable stuff. Short stories are my medium--Alice Munro, Barbara Kingsolver, Tom Wolfe, Thom Jones, George Saunders.
My Mom, my cousin Lori, all of my friends, and Geoff.
