Dr. Gregory Walter Graffin III, better known as Greg Graffin, the singer and founder of the punk rock band Bad Religion. He formed Bad Religion in 1980 at age 16 when he was in high school. The three more popular records on Epitaph are No Control, Against the Grain, and Generator. He recorded a solo album called American Lesion. Graffin double majored in anthropology and geology as an undergraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles. He would also earn a masters degree in geology from UCLA and receive his Ph.D. in evolutionary paleontology from Cornell University. The PhD thesis is officially a Zoology PhD thesis entitled "Monism, Atheism and the Naturalist Worldview: Perspectives from Evolutionary Biology". It is described as being essentially an evolutionary biology PhD but having also relevance to history and philosophy of science.
