About Me


Blue Sky Addicts reign and hail from Winnipeg, Manitoba, in the desolate prairies of the mid-center of Canada. Though finding it exceedingly difficult to define all that has become their live sound, Blue Sky Addicts have been transporting their love in sound wave form from local stages as a six-musician alt pop ice cream cone explosion of awesomeness (spared no sprinkle) since June of 2006.
Formed in early 2006 by Dan Barkman (previously of no fame) and Jordan Wiebe (of limited slurpee-consumption-related fame), Blue Sky Addicts were the result of little other than the belief that a band could play music vastly differing within the unity of its summed sounds, but remain united in beauty, and nearly always pop-based for the sake of indie masses.
The upbeat joy of Electric Light Orchestra, the enchanting dominance of Sigur Ros, the simple but unpredictable beauty of Hawksley Workman, and the vulnerable sentiments of Stars are borrowed, embraced, and celebrated, illustrating life through its tragic, beautiful, and even very normal moments. Slowly but surely the band has grown to include not merely two, but many new-sound-makers (Lauren Partridge: cello, trumpet, trombone, vocals, kazoo, glocanspiel, banjo; Aaron Schwab: bass; Amy Hemmerling: flute, violin, vocals; Landon Hildebrandt: drums, guitar), and all things have gained perspective; previously grey songs are filled now with colour and power; all that had been strong is now also rich, and bold; all that had been ambient is now also majestic, and delicate. All things have become as they should be. There is triumphant balance, little to no guitar rock, and all are happy.
Working diligently on the pre-production of their first full-length release, “Hide Your Love,” Blue Sky Addicts look to be on the road spreading their sound by spring of 2008. Watch out, World: here comes happy.
