About Me

It's always best to let others describe you. Here's a poem a freind wrote about me: ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------SIR GUS Opinionated. Open. Oh my god. Its Matt. What's that? Whats that sound? Its the sound of an activist. With a handlebar moustache.Don't argue, He's gonna open up a can of whoop-ass, On YOUR ass.The man don't stay quiet, The man loves a riot, So keep clear, If you're in riot gear. And don't mention the G-8 Sumit. FIN ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------That freind is http://www.myspace.com/renaissancerox and I am very grateful. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------(me ) pron. The objective case of I1. 1. Used as the direct object of a verb: He assisted me. 2. Used as the indirect object of a verb: They offered me a ride. 3. Nonstandard Used reflexively as the indirect object of a verb: I bought me a new car.-------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------[Middle English, from Old English m; see me-1 in Indo-European roots.]

My Interests

Arguing with people - particularly those who are wrong!

I'd like to meet:

Pascal, who said "Man is but a reed, the most feeble thing in nature; but he is a thinking reed.* The entire universe need not arm itself to crush him; a vapor, a drop of water, suffice to kill him. But when the universe has crushed him man will still be nobler than that which kills him, because he knows that he is dying, and of its victory the universe knows nothing."

Music:

Paraboliq Project, K-O, Cheesus, anything by Sauberg, Masoniq, Karnivool. Also got the new Tool - very good!

Movies:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Natural Born Killers. Cocaine Cowboys. How I won the war. Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii.

Television:

The drug of a nation. Breeding ignorance and feeding ratiation. Although I do like watching footy.

Books:

THE REPTILIAN AGENDA, by DAVID ICKE (look it up). Anything by Karl Popper, George Orwell, Karl Marx, Immanuel Kant, Noam Chomsky. Some Sartre and Camus. Rene Descartes 'Discourse on the method', 'Primo Levi's 'If this is a man', Arthur Koestler's 'Darkness at noon'. Don Watson's 'Death Sentence'. James Gleick's 'Chaos'. William Borrough's 'A book of Dreams'.

Heroes:

Karl Popper - came up with the formula by which everything can be disproved (probably not his intention). Rene Descartes - came up with a theory which cast doubt on everything.

My Blog

Zen and the art of working bees

Crises of meaning...

Sitting at home, having my weekly crisis of meaning over a few beers. At 34 I'm starting to really feel my disconnect from 'it', as so eloquently put by Marge Simpson. I had a conversation with Kim to...

The cost of staying silent and hoping Labor will fix everything.

Not my words this time, instead an article by George Monbiot - great writer - about the British Labour Party, from The Guardian - great newspaper. (I wonder what the copyright implications are). ...

Fear & the internet

Much has been written about Myspace & the internet generally in the Australian media in the last couple of weeks. Much of it has centred around the double suicide of two 16 year old girls in Melbo...

The race to the right

Kevin Rudd's IR policy is, without doubt, the most right wing, pro-business policy the ALP has put out in it's 100 year history. It abolishes some of the Howard 'reforms', but leaves untouched the bas...

Holding our breath and crossing our fingers and toes

Ten years ago the prospect of Peter Garrett as environment minister would have sounded like a dream come true. I can imagine many people on my side of politics saying things like "If only someone like...

The Oakes/Grattan honeymoon has gone on too long...

There have been a number of interesting developments in federal politics of late. Most notably, Kevin Rudd has continued to dominate the PR battle against John Howard, despite the best efforts of the ...

Middle aged men doing young men's stuff.

So it has been a while since I posted a blog that was personal, rather than a political rant - I make no apologies for this. But I must share a story about some stuff that has been going on with me la...

Ideas and ideology 2

In previous blogs, I have often referred to 'the right', as a bit of an abstract concept, but I have not really provided any concrete examples. Today I'm a going straight to the source, by starting w...
