In January 2006, songwriting partners, Andreas Stavropoulos and Rob Farley conceptualized a limitless rock band known as Six Hour Ride. Named for a transcontinental flight between the North American coasts, the band mixes styles varying from raw inner city sounds to unique and emotional melodies.
The months following January were spent writing songs and recording demos with friend and local producer, Fletcher Alliston. These demos include a live studio rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man and original collaborations with other artists, including Alliston on drums. Springtime offered Andreas and Rob a chance to travel up California to Pozo; a trip that not only inspired the songwriting, but also provided the imagery for the website. As the idea of Six Hour Ride materialized, the guys invited Alliston and bassist Matt Stone to perform a show on July 14th. The successful debut included seven original songs along with a powerful interpretation of Incubus' The Warmth. Seeing the potential of the music and knowing the chemistry through a past endeavor, Andreas and Rob turned to drummer Kyle Nail for a permanent role in Six Hour Ride. Shortly after, the guys met cellist/bassist Chris McCarthy at an open mic night in Costa Mesa. Sharing the same ideals and perseverance, the four rehearsed on September 2nd officially as Six Hour Ride.
The group spent the next four months writing and rehearsing a catalog of over twenty songs. With the intent of self-releasing a record in the Spring of 2007, Six Hour Ride played a private show at their rehearsal space for twenty or so fans, to test the new material.
As the year of 2006 came to a close, Andreas, Rob, Kyle, and Chris chose the track list and signed a contract with Unit 6 Studios in Santa Fe Springs, California to record their first album. Josh Perry would help produce and mix the album which was to be released in April of 2007. Before diving head first into the studio, Six Hour Ride played a memorable show at the Whisky in Hollywood on December 29 to temporarily say goodbye to fans.
January through March, 2007, was spent recording Paint. It was amazing to see all of the influences of each of the members come together. Andreas, Rob, Chris, & Kyle are into so many different styles of music including classical, alternative, rock, blues, and acoustic; Six Hour Ride found a way to meld all of the genres of music together and formed something completely unique. That is exactly what Paint stands for. It is a mix of many colors of music coming together to make something beautiful and eclectic.
Paint was self-released on April 24, 2007, and Six Hour Ride has plans for promoting it through rigorous touring. Be sure to check out their tour dates and the latest news on www.sixhourride.com and www.myspace.com/sixhourride.
