About Me

My Interests

Want my advice? Consider Bhutan's Gross National Happiness (GNH) index. Material goods are never going to live up to your expectations.
Go do something! Travel. Meet new people, have a drink or a meal with them. Keep an open mind. Smile more. Ride your bike. Give someone the benefit of the doubt. Be a good friend. Send birthday cards. Listen more than you talk. Make a difference in someone's life.
"There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- 'God damn it, you've got to be kind.' "—Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

    Travel:
Most of my adventures are either focused on Scuba diving (I've been to Fiji, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Bali, and many spots in the Caribbean, the best of which was Belize) or food/wine/beer, which usually means Europe. Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italia, Austria and England so far (multiple trips to some). I was stationed in Panama when I was in the Navy, and have also traveled to Japan and Korea.
We're booked for a dive trip to Truk and Palau in 2009 :-)
Cycling: I like to ride my bike.
Beer, Wine, and Food: I'm a certified beer judge and have a passion for Belgian ales. Once on a trip to Belgium, we got to help brew a batch of Stille Nacht at the De Dolle Brouwerij with owner Kris Herteleer.
The following week, we were in London and had the spectacular good luck of being invited on a pub crawl with the Beer Hunter, Michael Jackson, who took us around to his locals and some historic pubs in Old Hammersmith.

Some of my favorite beers:Belgium: Westmalle Triple, Hanssen's gueze, Oud Beersel kriek, DeDolle Oerbier and StilleNacht, Westvleteren 12, Rodenbach Grand Cru, Rochefort, Scaldis ... well, there are too many to name. US: Victory Prima Pils and Hop Wallop, Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA, Sierra Nevada Celebration, Anchor Liberty Ale, Tupper's Hop Pocket Pils and Ale, Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout and Dominator Doppelbock (if they ever make it again), Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout Other: Guinness, of course. Pale Rider (Sheffield, Britain), Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, Spaten Maibock, Schlenkerla, Bayerischer Bahnhof Gosebrauerei's Gose (Leipzig) to name just a few.

I'm a pretty good cook and usually focus on Italian and French cuisine, when I have time.
Politics: Fuck Bush. Fuck Cheney. Fuck Rummy. Fuck Gonzalez.
