About Me

No straight lines make up my life, and all my roads have bends. There's no clear-cut beginnings, and so far no dead ends. -HC

My Interests

Writing, reading, watching, listening, being, being, being. Less pseudo-esoteric: I miss having time for community theater. I'm a newspaper junkie for the obvious reasons. I'm passionate about live music, live theater ... anything clever and stimulating.

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Hypothetical desert island picks:Tom Waits - Heartattack and Vine. Bobby McFerrin - Circlesongs. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On. Moxy Fruvous - Live Noise Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life. The Beatles - Abbey Road. Keb Mo - Big Wide Grin. Nickel Creek - This Side. Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool.

Movies:

Tap. The Paper. Leon - The Professional. The Muppets Take Manhatten. Seven. Two Girls and a Guy. Swingers. The Big Lebowski. Some Kind of Wonderful. Ghostbusters. PCU. The Princess Bride. And lots and lots of others.

Television:

Really, Aaron Sorkin should be responsible for more television. I'm addicted to Smallville (Superboy's Creek). I likes me my occasional sci-fi, but not in a crazy dress-up kind of way. Law & Order: Jaywalking Unit is pretty good.

Books:

I've recently finished "Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned" by Kinky Friedman. Fun. I'm in the middle of Mark Twain's "Advice for Bad Little Boys and Girls." Is it wrong that I found Strunk & White entertaining? I read Dave Barry when I want to be goofy. I read David Sedaris when I want to smirk. I read Kurt Vonnegut whenever. Tariq Ali's "Clash of the Funamentalisms" is ... interesting. Angels in America is as good to read as it is to watch.

Heroes:

McFerrin

Another 40 minutes in another Starbucks

I've always liked that kind of hair: too close to brown to be called auburn, but still with a hint of red, and unapologetically curly. It suggests a fire masked only slightly by a veneer of civility. ...

40 minutes at a Starbucks

I'm in the Starbucks, because it's not the house, and reading, because it's not wasting away time online, which I do far too much. I don't like these places, these chain places, these generic places;...
