I have a number of interests, including (but not limited to): SecondLife, playing live music in SecondLife, reading science fiction and detective fiction, playing the occasional computer game (FPS and Adventure, primarily), and cooking. I have a website at http://www.efn.org/~marcl if you are interested in seeing more about me, and some recipes I enjoy.
Musicians in the Eugene, Oregon area
I listen to a little bit of everything, but I prefer acoustic music. As a kid, I felt that lyrics detracted from music (which I felt should be "pure"). This is why I play acoustic piano, and in my younger days focuses on Scott Joplin rags and new age music. I've since changed that view, as I understand how the human voice can be an excellent instrument. I'm still not thrilled with poetry cluttering up songs, but it's difficult to find acoustic music without vocals. So, most of the music I enjoy is individual songs, not whole artists. The artists I do enjoy include Tom Waits, James Blunt, and Ween. I play live piano music in the SecondLife environment, as Jaycatt Nico. I have an album for sale (and samples to preview) at http://www.jaycattnico.com.
I am a big movie fan, and have seen most of the comedies out there. I haven't watched a lot of drama or horror films, though. My favorite movies include: Army of Darkness, Slacker, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Johnny Dangerously, Top Secret, Before Sunrise, The Truman Show, The Cat Returns (anime), Galaxy Quest, and many many others.
I don't watch a lot of television, because I dispise advertising and reality shows. I do enjoy The Simpsons, Family Guy, Doctor Who, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Eek! The Cat, Freakazoid!, Red Dwarf, Futurama, Max Headroom, Mr. Show, and quite a few others.
Books? Oh yes, I'm a big reader. My all time favorite author is Spider Robinson, who writes the Callahan's Crosstime Saloon chronicals. Other authors I enjoy are C. D. Payne (Youth in Revolt), Sue Grafton (Alphabet mysteries), Douglas Adams (for his Hitchhiker's series) and John D. MacDonald (Travis McGee books). As for individual books, I recommend: Forrest Gump (much better than the movie), Phule's Company by Robert Asprin, Bridge of Birds : A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was by Barry Hughart, and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
