Schuyler (Schuyler is pronounced like Skyler)
I have been a Second Life resident since January of 2005 and have had the pleasure of watching the platform grow into what it is today, especially the live music scene. When I joined there were less than two hundred thousand people that had signed up to try Second Life and now there have been over ten million. Back then ten thousand concurrent residents logged in at once was a big deal and considered a “stress test†for Linden Labs.
On April 1st, 2006 a First Life friend and I formed Kent-Havercamp Enterprises, Ltd (KHE). Together we develop products and services for the residents of Second Life. Or flagship product is the ASM1000 – Audio Stream Manager for your Second Life. More info about KHE and the ASM1000 is available at www.kenthavercamp.com
Most of what I do in Second Life involves music, live performances and the promotion and marketing of those efforts. In late 2006 I was fortunate enough to meet Flameheart Sol. We started discussing her vision for a live music venue that would focus on quality over quantity. She wanted to provide a complete and immersive live music experience in Second Life similar to what you would have in First Life. Flameheart had the vision and the venue and I had the connections to the live music scene and experience with independent musicians within Second Life. The house of Flames was born and since that time has established a reputation for professionalism and quality live music within Second Life.

About Second Life:
Designed by Linden Labs, Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, Second Life has grown explosively and is now inhabited by over a million people from around the globe. The residents of Second Life pay for products and services with virtual money called Linden Dollars (L$ or Lindens, for short), which can be exchanged for real world dollars. The current SL exchange rate is around L$300 to $1 USD .

About the ASM1000 by KHE:
So, what is this thing anyway? Well... the ASM1000 is an Audio Stream Manager for your Second Life owned, rented, or shared land. There are many ways to manage audio streams in Second Life , but they all have issues and limitations. One issue is the constant need to update note cards and scripts for adding and removing audio streams. Another issue is that a lot of the user configurations are stored in temporary memory or within separate note cards and scripts. This becomes a problem when you move to a new location or redecorate because the temporary memory will be reset and you will need to reconfigure your settings. The ASM1000 eliminates these issues by moving the storage and management of this information to an easy to use web portal hosted outside Second Life . The portal is accessed via the ASM1000's Main Menu and will allow you to control who can operate your ASM1000, how your unit communicates, your favorites & presets, as well as the visibility, color, speed, and length of the display text. This also means that every time you use your ASM1000, you will receive the most current content to choose from.
Searching for a Stream
The ASM1000 has the ability to search for a stream by genre. The ASM1000 can search streams by genre or filter the streams in a number of different ways to help you find the right vibe.
Popularity Rankings
One of the best features of the ASM1000 is the popularity ranking system. We keep track of how often each stream is played and allow all of our users to see the list of those that are most popular. We will also use this information to determine which streams to keep, which to change, and which genres should be expanded.
Personal Streams
You can now add your own favorite streams into the "Personal Streams" section of the ASM1000 configuration portal. Theses streams are only accessible from your ASM1000/s and will not show up in the network rankings list or the global network search. Simply add a stream to the personal section and it will be added to your preset button the next time you click it. These personal streams will be accessible from every ASM1000 your avatar owns.
Virtual CD Player
Not only can you choose from a list of streaming radio stations, but we have also included a virtual CD player with the ASM1000. These CDs are actually just MP3s of songs from unsigned bands, singers, DJs, and musicians that have agreed to participate in our project. Clicking on one of the CD's will take you to the artists website or MySpace where you can learn more about them, send messages, and buy their gear. There is also a popularity ranking system for these CDs. See which unsigned artists are the most popular in Second Life .
