No strangers to Auckland’s underground music scene, International Flannel are a power trio who deliver a sound that is extremely difficult to categorise and distinctly their own. Described as “combining the best elements of grunge power ethos, punk attitude and a spaced out dose of atmosphere-ia", and, "one of Auckland's best loved and most aurally enchanting live acts" by Rip It Up’s Reuben Bonner, this is a band that must be seen live.
Currently in the process of promoting their third EP which is titled ‘Blood and Bone’, the band have also released their video for ‘Getaway’, the first single from the EP. The ‘Getaway’ video features a psychedelic journey of a young boy who encounters other worlds and times with the help of his magic viewmaster. The video has been featuring on C4 ‘select’, Juice TV and Alt TV. Not wasting any time they are also in the final stages of making a video for the follow up single, ‘I am so high’. The ‘Getaway’ video and ‘Blood and Bone’ EP release party was held at the Rising Sun in Auckland and its vibe has set the pace for the success of the EP.
International Flannel formed in 2002, and consists of brothers Daniel and David Heeps in the rhythm section on bass and drums respectively, and Lloyd Anderson on guitar. Vocal duties are shared by Daniel and Lloyd. Having already released two EP’s ‘Extended Play’ in 2005 and ‘Edge of the Sky’ in 2006, the band are excited about the prospects of ‘Blood and Bone’ as they believe it is a better representation of their musical vision.
Keep your eyes and ears open for ‘Getaway’ and ‘I am so High’, get your hands on a copy of ‘Blood and Bone’ and make sure you get along to a live show to hear International Flannel as they should be, live and loud.
