Island of Sound

Merry Christmas & a Happy Chinese New Year!

About Me

From January 2004 to April 2005 Marty Shane lived in Taiwan going to whatever shows, parties and music fests he could find. Whether it was DJ Lim Giong's outdoor Her-he parties, hanging out with the shady nite crew of the Underground, digging the seediness of Spin or rocking out at the summertime fests like Ho-Hai-Yan and Formoz, he was always makin' the scene observing the happenings and taking in the sounds. At the close of his stay was the island's yearly rock ritual Spring Scream when all the bands gather around for a five day celebration in the mountains by the beach. After Marty returned home to NY, he wrote what he could remember about each band he saw and made profiles for them on the Island of Sound website. Then he got hip to myspace and found a few of his friends from Taiwan had posted their songs and he made a group for them. The next step was this Myspace Music tribute to them where some of the more obscure tracks are posted every month or so. So far themes have ranged from Ho-Hai-Yan Battle of the Bands winners, Rockabilly bands, south Taiwan punk, It'll be a cool rotation and feel free to make requests too.If I post anything I'll try to let the band know before hand and if anyone has a problem with the pics or song posts, just let me know... peace.

Here's what I consider to be a sister site to the Island of Sound. On Rockacola.com, you'll find many profiles of the same bands on my site and you can listen and download some MP3s here and there. It's in Chinese, but just click around to find some interesting music!

PACIFICTION RECORDS is a new online CD shop where you can find some of the bands featured on Island of Sound. If you are interested in any of the bands found here, you can request more info about them from PACIFICTION RECORDS.
