About Me

My name is Martin Vickers. I recently graduated from the University of West Florida with a B.A. in English and a minor in Professional Education. On June 4, 2005, I married Christine, the love of my life, who also studied to be a teacher (except at an elementary level).I enjoy intellectual discussions, especially regarding religious issues. I like to study Christian apologetics (defense of the faith), including historical, archaeological, scientific, and philosophical aspects of Christianity. My wife laughs at me and says that I am the only person who studies for relaxation (she may be right!). I also enjoy studying various elements of literature, and especially love the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. In my spare time (as if I have any), I enjoy watching movies, reading books, listening to music, and above all, spending time with my beautiful wife.

My Interests

I mainly enjoy reading anything that I can get my hands on. Since I don't have that much spare time, I have to really make time to read (something that I would recommend everyone doing).

Music:

I enjoy contemporary Christian and classical mostly. I especially enjoy the lyrics of Keith Green and Apologetix. Keith Green's songs are some of the most challenging you will ever listen to. I also enjoy the oldies.

Movies:

My favorites are the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Star Wars saga. I also enjoy good, clean comedy; unfortunately that is hard to find anymore.

Television:

Cable? What's that?

Books:

I am not sure that I've met a book I didn't like.

Another reading quote.

I haven't put up a new quote on reading in a while, so here is one by Mark Twain:  "A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read." That is a great one to think about, especial...

Frustrating trend regarding reading.

How important is the truth to you?

I was reading a book today, and began to think about something I wanted to share with others.  It is on the subject of truth.  We live in what is called the postmodern age.  The i...
