Melissa

At the temple of Aphrodite, priestesses were called "Melissae," which means " bees," and Aphrodite herself was called Melissa, the queen bee. Since then, the name Melissa has also been known to mean "Honey Bee," even through history to certain American Indian tribes.It's true that only the female honeybees die after they sting. When the barbed stinger is left inside the victim, the honeybee mortally tears her abdomen in the process. Alas, she dies. Relatively docile, they only commit suicidal acts when provoked. And they only die if they sting a mammal, because of the thickness of the skin. They can sting other insects with impunity. Maybe we, as lady bees, should all pick our battles? At least there is an "alarm pheromone" secreted at the base of the stinger which causes other bees in the vicinity to get riled up.
