All At Random - Broadway Central Cafe, So. Amboy, NJ January 10, 2004 I literally stumbled onto this show. The Broadway Central Cafe is one of those cool, eclectic clubs where you can go to get lost in the music. Known for having bands from the obvious to the obscure (acoustic to punk), tonight it was time to crank up the amps a little. After a solid acoustic (congas & guitar) set by Lifted, and the comic relief of Charles, All At Random started off with two covers by The Misfits and Pistols. Both songs got the crowd going, and Brian's (vocals/bass) mock English accent on "Anarchy in the UK" was funny and gave the song a lift. From there they launched into original punk rock tunes. When the catch phrase on "Rock Star" ("It's alright cause we're here tonight") came around, the crowd (mostly dedicated fans) joined in and brought the song over the top! About halfway through the show (they played about an hour,) they blasted into "Hit Song" from their current self-titled CD (www.allatrandom.com.) The club was rockin' with the big guitar sound, fueled by old school punk, punctuated by unpolished (but good) vocals. Quick, funny covers of Ren & Stimpy's "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy," and a punk rock version of "Cottoneye Joe" (yeah, that "Cottoneye Joe"), loosened up the crowd even further. All At Random traded verses with their hardcore fans on "Waiting" - the song takes over where the New York Doll's "Trash' leaves off. It's heavy and punk-as-shit! "Nowhere Man" (an original, not the Beatles version) and the encore "Nuttin' for Christmas` was like getting your birthday and a late Christmas present all in one. The band just keeps giving and giving! All At Random are an exciting band, one that you'll want to tell your friends about! - Phil Rainone (Photo courtesy of www.allatrandom.com) Review in Jersey Beat
