Organ Harvesting:The Truth about BODIES EXHIBITION

ORGAN RETRIEVAL/HARVESTING CLAIMS"Last year, China finally admitted that it routinely harvests the organs of executed prisoners for transplant purposes both at home and for sale abroad without prior consent. However, Falun Dafa practitioners are claiming that prisoners are not executed before the organs are removed. In other words, prisoners are still alive before their bodies are removed for black-market sale. The nature of the allegations is they're actually killed in the process of the operation of organ removal. According to the Chinese reporter for Japanese television who broke the story in March, Falun Gong followers were being murdered for their organs at a hospital in Sujiatun in northeast China where they had been sent by freight train. That reporter, who is now in hiding in the United States, called the facility a "concentration camp." A woman called "Annie" who worked as an accountant at that hospital also claimed that about 4,500 of the 6,000 Falun Gong prisoners being held in the basement had had their hearts, kidneys, corneas and skin harvested and their bodies cremated." BODIES EXHIBITRecently, there is a new "educational" exhibition that has just opened in Arlington that has created controversy and was on the news last week. "The Exhibition, which puts cadavers on display, is designed to educate the public. The cadavers have been preserved in liquid silicon rubber, dissected and the skin peeled away, giving the public a glimpse at authentic lungs, hearts, livers, and brains. It's an eerie and, some say, fascinating journey into the human body. Liquid rubber is pulled into the tissue and into the cells. Once inside, it's hardened so that the specimens become dry and odorless. You can color them or display them in any way that you choose," said Dr. Roy Glover, medical director of the exhibit. The cadavers come to the Exhibition from China, officials said; they are unclaimed bodies, donated to a Chinese Medical School for educational purposes. The school then loaned the cadavers to Bodies: the Exhibition for an educational mission, officials said. However, some opponents, such as a group of protestors in Florida last September, said they wonder if the families of the deceased were notified before the bodies were transformed in the exhibit. "They did not give permission, but they are unclaimed bodies," said Glover." Although there is not enough "evidence" to claim that these "bodies" are those who were in prison for practicing Falun Dafa, we can still argue against the ethical issue of using bodies without consent.
