Caela and the pianoing

About Me

I first wanted to play piano when I was 2, but my mother's instrument was more like furniture and no children were allowed to touch it. (I'm not so mean, I let my 2-year-old make music!) It wasn't until I started school at the age of 5 that I started playing, and after a year or two I got a music scholarship. I played right through school, and my biggest regret is that I was far too nervous to take any exams. I played in school concerts, both as a solo and with the orchestra, but fell to pieces under the pressure of exams.
I drifted away from the piano after I left school and filled my life with other things, but I was never without an instrument at home and kept pottering away here and there.
I'm now slowly getting back into music, and I'll see where it takes me. Maybe I'll even have the guts to get through the grades! :P
I like to listen to all sorts of music, especially acoustic-folky-indie-rock, and my man and I love dragging each other around searching out new bands. (Or at least bands who are new to us!) It's fun :D

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Caela the one with hands.
Steinway Baby the grand piano.
Yamaha Clavinova the digital piano.
Blüthner rosewood 6'3" grand the Christmas present.
Influences: My mother, who bullied me into living her childhood dreams for her, and my evil idential twin, whose jealousy of my ability made me strive to constantly better her. And Calum, Charlie, Jim and Steve, who tend to say nice things about me musically (and in general, sometimes) and who let me take over their band a few times. And my school music teacher, Miss Galloway, who used to hit me over the head with a pencil case. And Eloisa, who plays Beethoven at the age of 3, and Alasdair, who is secure enough on his feet to dance.
On a more professional level, my biggest influence is Glenn Gould. "Pure dead brilliant", as my mother would say.
Sounds Like: ... a mad woman playing the piano. Mostly Beethoven right now, but I'm starting to expand a little ...
Record Label: I'm not good enough to have a label :P
Type of Label: None

New Upload: Chopin

I've finally got round to uploading a new piece I recorded before I broke my leg. Might put some more up, but I'm always tied over what to take down. It's a bugger that I can only have 4 up at once. ...

Snap - no crackle, no pop

I fell off a horse this morning - not mine, one I jumped on for a minute before its owner lost her marbles - and fell off, breaking my shin bone in the process. Actually, it wasn't the falling that di...

Goalie

I last had a proper look at my musical ambitions in September last year (that's when I wrote them down, anyways) so it's high time for a progress report... Bach - Goldberg variations (Aria). Still qui...

Random news from Caelaland

Strange things happen when my sisters come to visit. I am surrounded by hangovers - none my own, I hasten to add... I currently have a dog sitting on the sofa beside me, gazing into my eyes lovingly. ...
