Teduardo

One Soulful Honkey

About Me

Guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer, composer, engineer & multi-instrumentalist, Edward "Teduardo" Canaday got his start playing the bar circuit at the age of 16 with the influential Detroit band Black Mali. Treading entirely original territory, combining psychedelic funk, alternative grunge rock & rap before such combinations were commonplace, Black Mali played with the Afghan Whigs, Beastie Boys, & fIREHOSE during their 5 year career.
During music school, Teduardo joined jazz rock & psilocybin soul pioneers Majic Dragon and toured England & Wales with his college singing group. He founded Purplefly as an ode to his Hendrixian guitar roots & Princely pop aspirations, performed as solo accompaniment for jazz vocalist Isabella, and recorded and released 10 albums among his various musical groups.
With the dawn of the millennium, Teduardo ensconced himself in his studio, writing & recording material exploring acoustic songwriting, multi-layered funk extravaganzas, & electronic wanderings first rooted in the 80's by a love for Chicago house & industrial music and rekindled by the experience of 2001's Detroit Electronic Music Festival. With the golden ear of producer Chuck Alkazian guiding the mixing process, a picture began to emerge from the pile of smoldering creativity. The sacred or somewhat serious, Teduardo; the profane, Hot & Runny .
On a fateful November eve in 2001, at the at the urging of current member and long-time musical compatriot Mark "Swami" Harper , Teduardo joined hip hop & soul stalwarts Black Bottom Collective on stage. It was a match made in the D. Born and raised in Detroit, having learned guitar by alternately jamming to Led Zeppelin and Eric B. & Rakim, and having freely dropped rhymes both scathing & silly, Teduardo bonded immediately with the mighty BBC, elevating its live status with his prominent guitar chops and feeding a frenzied fire of on-stage chemistry most apparent in their celebrated stints at Royal Oak's Fifth Avenue in 2003 & 2005. Black Bottom Collective's second album, People Mover , drew on Teduardo's considerable talents as a producer, composer, performer, arranger, engineer & editor, and is one of his proudest accomplishments to date.
Teduardo's commercial credits include sound design for Verizon Wireless and original music for Audi, Ford Motor Company and K-Mart. He's a founding partner and Chief Operating Officer of Elemental Detroit , a strategic creative new media marketing firm who've produced online and interactive projects for Compuware, Daimler-Chrysler, and Black Bottom Collective.
At the moment, Teduardo is at a threshold, where the crossroads of life have resulted in both obstacle and opportunity. He's currently evaluating several albums worth of unreleased musical works from the recent past while forging ahead with the new at the urging of forces most important to him. When not playing music, Teduardo enjoys escaping civilization through wilderness adventure.
