point break staring keanu reeves and patrick swayze was the most important flim of 1991. kathryn bigelow deftly directs her charges with a sublte hand through all of the plot twists and action packed sequences that the writing team of rick king and w. peter illif have conjured for her. however the real driving force behind this feature is the unsurpassed acting skills of vetran co-star gary busey as angelo pappas. his performance stands as a monument to the man and his craft.
as a child the situational comedy three's company always, and still to this day, held a very dear and special place in my tender child-heart. everything from the slapstick stylings of john ritter to the erotic baudiness that priscilla barnes as teri alden represented to me, all of this i found vastly entertaining. while i understood them at the time, what i did not find really all that funny were sketches or gags involving john ritters suposed homosexuality. what was really more interesting was the far more homo-erotic theme that was never delt with in any sort of way. the theme that i'm talking about of course is the later addition of don knotts' character to the show. i'll say no more about it. what contiues to pique my interest with this show today is the foresight or awaredness that the show displayed with regards to the somewhat rececent phenomenom of chef as celebrety. the inspiration for jack trippers aspirations is no doubtly the then rising star chef wolfgang puck; who was setting up shop in los angles at the time and what would eventually culminate into his legendary restaurant spago.
joan didion represents all of the beauty and magic and blood and sex and death that all women secretly posses. this is the most profound beauty that man has known since he came into existence. sometimes a gift this grand can seem like a burden for the ones who posses it, joan knows this and she writes about it so that we all know that it is going to be alright. joan is one of the most brillant women of the modern era. joan can and has written on myriad subjects including the history of malls, the counter culture, politics both abroad and at home, and modern water distribution however, she is at her most eloquent when writing about her home state of california. joan is also the accomplished author of several fictional novels. i love joan very much and in my own way pray for her everyday
