BRIEF HISTORY OF SMKSSAASSekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SMKSSAAS) was founded in 1978. It was formerly known as Sekolah Menengah Shah Alam. Sekolah Menengah Shah Alam was founded by Encik Mohd. Kasim bin Sohoot, who was also the first principal of the school. When it was first established, Sekolah Menengah Shah Alam had to use classrooms at Sekolah Rendah Seksyen 16, Shah Alam until its school buildings were completed on the first of March 1979 after a year of construction. At the beginning, there were only 11 teachers, 262 students and 6 workers.On the 15th of August 1987, the school was renamed Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SMKSSAAS) in honour of the late DYMM Sultan Selangor. His Majesty officiated this school 10 years after its founding. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah became the first secondary school in Shah Alam.Due to the rapid development and rising population of Shah Alam, the school was divided into two sessions, one in the morning from 7.30am to 1.10pm and an afternoon session from 1.10pm to 6.50pm. The original two buildings, which had only 13 classes were added with two new buildings, which housed 26 classrooms altogether, fully equipped with facilities needed for learning. In 2003, a new 4 storey building was built, housing 9 classrooms and 5 laboratories.In 1980, the first Sijil Rendah Pelajaran (SRP) examination was carried out, followed by the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in 1982. Form 6 classes were only opened in 1988 and the first form 6 colony sat for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) in 1989.The number of students increased by the year. In 1997, 1,834 students were attending school at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. The staff consist of 100 teachers and a small number of workers.
