Pay is just a regular girl from around the way, born, raised and still located in Amsterdam. Growing up with a musician as a father (guitarist, keyanist, singer, songwriter, composer, producer), it was only natural for her to turn into that direction as well. At age 6 she started playing the piano and next to that she started making her own mixtapes, recorded on her little cassette recorder, battling with her brother, about who had the dopest ones. During her time in highschool she would remain her love for music yet focusing on her education.
It wasn't until '99 she started picking back up her passion. After a few rough personal years she found her outlet in writing. Following the advice of her good friend and MC, Marlon Anderson, she converted her writing into lyrics. Within no time producer Majestik from Rotterdam picked up her lyrics and guided her into mc-ing. She recorded a few songs with him and started working with another producer called Mac Peretti from Richmen Inc. The song she recorded with Richmen Inc. got picked up nationally by it being put on a Clubtracks mixtape and got spins everywhere. Pay was asked to join a female MC tour in 2004 which she hopped on to get stage experience.
During that same time, she had also become a well-known radio host for the internet based radio station Royal Radio. Starting as a co-host from The Take Over Show, she managed to put together her own show, an old school show called Royal Reminisce. From there she started networking for the station and quickly became one of the partners of the station, doing the account management mainly focused on the US.
While handling the radio station's business she started working with DJ Jamal Smallz from Chicago (the beat bully / official G-Unit DJ) who she met in 2001 somewhere and established a friendship with ever since. DJ Jamal Smallz got his own mixtape show on Royal Radio, he also founded the DJ crew named Full Impact DJ's Worldwide, which Pay became part of.
After the female MC tour in '04, Pay left mc-ing alone for a minute due to personal situations and lack of people to really connect and work with in The Netherlands. She decided to focus on the radio station and managed to make deals with independent labels, DJ's and artists for Royal Radio, expanding her network.
In 2006 she got asked by ML75 (the biggest urban website in The Netherlands) to do interviews and reports for them, as they had seen her work for the radio station. Right now she is the leading reporter for ML75. Between Royal Radio, ML75 and some freelance work for other media companies, Pay has interviewed artists such as Public Enemy, Slum Village, Black Milk, Nas, Pharoahe Monch, Aloe Blacc, Ne-Yo, R.A. the Rugged Man, Shai, Young Jeezy, Sean Price, The Away Team (Khrysis and Sean Boog), Jaheim, Raekwon, Darien Brockington and many more. Check out www.ml75.nl to read most of those interviews.
In the same year she got in touch with hiphop-soul singer Tiffany Paige who she offered to do a promo mixtape for, called Breakin' Boundaries, released through Shaman Work Recordings in NY. From that point on Pay got more offers to do mixtapes for artists, so her focus right now is DJ-ing outside of the radio studio as well.
Pay's credibility has grown and keeps growing through the network she is building and the people she works with. With about 5 more mixtape projects in the works right now, running a radio station, being venture partner of venture capitalist company Envca Worldwide (DTP affiliated, Atlanta/Sao Paolo), interviewing the biggest hiphop (and R&B) artists, nationally as well as internationally, and setting up a new hiphop show for Royal Radio, Pay stays on the grind to get her resume up and expanding her business and name. Basically, she's just doin' what she loves most. Music.
