About Me

As a son of hippy parents the musical evolution of Herr Brandt started at a very young age when he was listening to The Beatles, David Bowie, The Stooges, Led Zeppelin, even Kraftwerk and many other contemporaries of the late 60s and early 70s. He was always fascinated by the variety of different styles and sounds. At the beginning of the Punk-Movement in Germany he was sure the time was right to make music himself. Herr Brandt favourized especially the more electronic New Wave and Punk outfits as well as the Gothic- and Batcave-scene. At first he was experimenting with different sound sources before becoming a DIY-keyboarder. He did his first recordings using a Korg MS-20 synth and an old, whacky Dr. Boehm rhythm device. In 1981 he formed his first band as a singer and keyboarder but this band split up after almost three years without playing a single live performance or releasing a record. He had his first gig as a guest keyboarder of German band Saalschlacht in 1981. In 1984 Herr Brandt learned how to play the guitar. He played and gigged with several punk outfits until 1987. From 1988 until 1991 Herr Brandt went back to his electronic roots and played guitar and keyboards in an EBM-synthpop-Duo called Liquid Dreams.Musical life changed for Herr Brandt again in 1991 when he started as guitarist and songwriter for the wave band The Convent . In the last 15 years The Convent released about seven albums. The first two albums were produced by Mark Burgess of The Chameleons and Herr Brandt and Mister Burgess have remained close friends ever since. Herr Brandt also has worked with singer/songwriter Paul Roland, Chris Reed of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Adrian Borland of The Sound and singer/songwriter Kevin Hewick. In 2003 Herr Brandt and The Convent keyboard player Stefan B. (a.k.a. Kpt. Korg ) decided to form Sonnenbrandt together with singer Frau Sonne who is also the beloved wife of Herr Brandt. Sonnenbrandt released their debut 7EP Urlaubsgruss mit Sonnenbrand(t) back in 2004 which was sold out within a few weeks. In 2005 they re-released this EP with bonustrack Radio on CD. Currently Sonnenbrandt is busy working on their debut album. Also Sonnenbrandt is collaborating with Mark Burgess for a further release.
