About Me

My name is Harry Horse and I used to play in a band called Swamptrash. We played bluegrass and kicked up a bit of dust. I think it was happy music-it made people smile. There was James McIntosh on drums, Nick Prescott on mandolin, Garry Findlayson on banjo, Neil McArthur on fiddle, Macolm Crosbie on guitar and me on vocals and banjo. We formed in 1985 during the Edinburgh Festival to make a bit of busking money and when that failed I cooked up the idea of saying that we were all brothers, a stranded bluegrass act from Missouri, trying to buy tickets home to our beloved Swampland. So James becames Elmore, Garry was Doc, Nick was Dexter {who saw something nasty in the woodshed),Malcolm became Coolhand,Neil was Cal and I was Billy Joe. All of a sudden we were very welcome in the Edinburgh pubs and clubs. Gee real Americans! After that the band played all over Britain for five years till we split in London in 1989 and that was that. Swamptrash were best live and never really got much chance to record. There is an album called It Makes No Never Mind and a BBC session on EP called BONE. During the last few gigs that we played I met Mandy and we fell in love and married. Sixteen years we have been together, though now we face hard times as for the last two years Mandy has been ill with multiple sclerosis and is now in a wheelchair. I care for her and our life is about fighting the illness.I live with her in Shetland on a small island called Burra where I write and illustrate children's books. I still play the banjo and my latest offering is called Horseyboots. I hope to upload some of this material along with pieces by Swamptrash.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 Profile Edited by MPS MySpace Editor 2.0ALL ARTWORK FEATURED ON THIS PAGE IS THE WORK OF HARRY HORSE ©

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Mandy would like to hear from anyone who is suffering from this terrible condition known as MS. She is unable to type and therefore cannot operate a blog, though I help her in replies. I would like to hear from artists and muscians and dreamers of the dream....these are hard times that we all are facing. So Bush and Blair beware... We are mad and we aint gonna stand for it!In Memory of Roo ( a Very Brave Dog) 1989-2006Shortly after composing the text for this page, Harry Horse, real name Richard Horne and his wife Mandy died at their home in Shetland. In honour of my two closest friends I'd like to keep this profile going and welcome any and all contributions.Thanks.Mark Burgess, Feb 2007
