Set in the trendy and multiculturally sophisticated Deep Ellum area- Studio 5012 offers an upbeat and energetic vibe to clients looking to take their look to the next level.Johnson, who began cutting hair while in college, was convinced by his mother to earn a cosmetology license, rather than going to barber college like some of his friends. He attended Dallas’ own Velma B’s Beauty Academy, trained at Paul Mitchell, and worked as an educator for several different companies. He specializes in cuts, colors and styling and has served as the director of the hair and fashion segment of the Dallas Black Expo for the last three years.ALSO CURRENTLY AN ASSOCIATE FOR BIA INTL.Known as a “Boot Camp” for stylists, some of the city’s most well-known coiffures got started at Studio 5012. Mr. Johnson credits his dedication to continuing education of veteran stylists and his willingness to help new stylists market themselves and their skills and build clientele.Although each of the seven stylists at Studio 5012 is highly trained in all areas of hair care, there are three stylists available who specialize in natural hair styling and maintenance. Whether you rock the retro ‘fro, mohawk or the Alicia Keys cornrows- they’ve got you covered. Products retailed in the salon include Nairobi®,SEBASTIAN,AFFIRM,VITALE,BIA and Essations®.The stylish art-deco furnishings and artwork that make up the interior of the salon have an invigorating effect on weary clients who come in hoping for a new look. The well-trained and capable stylists are more than ready to work their magic on the diverse clientele that frequents the establishment.You won’t hear any Beethoven or Chopin piping through the sound system at 5012. Depending on what’s going on in the salon at any given moment- Studio 5012 offers classes for stylists, seminars, and professional photo shoots- the atmosphere may call for anything from old school R&B to contemporary jazz. I feel like everybody else will have to catch up with Studio 5012.
