IF CREATIVITY WERE worth its value in gold, then Jason Moe would be heavily tipping the scales. One of the foremost upcoming British producers, his unquestionable talent, vision and aptitude to create diverse productions is what makes him a beacon in today’s music scene. Born and raised in South London, BRIT School graduate Moe also known as ‘Moezart’ has already allowed media to swiftly gauge his innovative abilities and fresh approach to production. The release of his first single ‘Walk On’ became a runaway hit blazing a trail in clubland nationwide. The addictive single sold in excess and opened doors for him as a producer and songwriter. His other releases include the soulful 4 to the floor ‘Closer To You’ released under the M3 label and devastating club banger ‘Down Down’ in conjunction with production partner Ras Kwame. However, these releases revealed merely a single facet of Moe’s genre bursting style. His penchant for melody and music was born out of a strong church upbringing and his education fuelled by the “old piano in the back hall of the church”. As well as soaking up harmonies and studying vocalisation via the choir, it was Moe’s own interpretations of what he was hearing on the radio, via friends and at church that developed his understanding and style. Innovation, dexterity and creative flair as opposed to sitting behind a computer screen simply churning out beats, is what makes him stand out of the pack. As well as having the Midas touch when it comes to production it’s the fact that Moe has an aptitude to pen remarkable songs. “I’m a lyricist first before buildinggreat beats” he states “You’re more likely to hear me play you a thousand and one songs from my computer, than a thousand and one beats” he says summing up his way of thinking. Self taught musician Moe, is adept at playing several instruments ranging from saxophone, keys and drums. It’s his utilisation of these live sounds within his production that bring colour to his music and lifeto his creations. He recalls, “When I was young, James Brown to me was like sherbet to a kid. I saw a video on the JB’s, his band in secondary school and the funky drummer caught my full attention. I then went on to learn how to play the drums and building some hot live sequences- I’m always thinking back to the funky drummer when I need inspiration!” As his proficiency in playing the saxophone, drums and piano grew, so did his catalogue of music. He was introduced to UK singer/ song writer Andrew Roachford in 1999 and their working relationship and Moe’s education was nurtured. Moe’s creativity was allowed to breathe and develop into its own and his techniques were honed and perfected. “It was Steven Roachford that taught me much of what I know,” Moe states “I used to work under pressure and had to produce in so many different styles or beats in order to learn about different genres of music but now I can exploit this knowledge into what I work on today”. It’s precisely this refreshing outlook when creating songs and tracks that makes Moe a rare commodity. In a frenzied world of over zealous producers, overused drum machines and repetitive sampled loops, you scarcely find someone that doesn’t rely on searching through crates of old vinyl to find a sample that no one has used...yet. “When I’m writing, it’s songs that I hear first and foremost. If I ever use anything that I haven’t created myself it will be a ‘stab’ that has been manipulated for a particular texture that I am building” he explains. Years of hard graft and persistence have opened doors for him and his lyrical prowess has led to writing and production credits with Roachford, Omar, Lynden David Hall, Cathy Dennis, Travis Blaque, CJ Lewis and up and coming US talent Jasmine O’Sullivan. But this is just the beginning for Jason ‘Moezart’ Moe. He is on the verge of something great. Working with Nerol Productions, Jason is stepping up for co-song writing and production duties. He is part of a team launching the careers of up and coming hugely talented British musicians and performers. Expect to hear anything from heavy punk riffage and stomping hip hop to soaring soulful melodies and new age jazz courtesy of Moe. Moe is no stranger to stretching the boundaries of production and traditional musical genres. His fearless experimentation and comprehensive tutelage along with a sprinkle of his own blue sky thinking, sees him delivering pioneering and a consistent string of quality songs. This modern marvel may just turn out to be a pivotal figure in the evolving British music scene.Jason ‘Moezart’Moe NEROL P R O D U C T I O N S
