DC singer/songwriter Tom Goss makes edgy acoustic pop that appeals to diverse tastes and evokes a wide range of emotions. His muscular, intelligent songs match sounds that make you move with words that make you think.
On his debut CD, Naked Without, Tom spans the spectrum: hooky anthems ("July") and ("Come Around"), grungy funk ("The Seeker" and "Like a Dog"), and achingly beautiful ballads ("A Thousand Times Before" and "Leave the Past Behind"). Tom's guitar and dynamic vocals, backed by William Henderson's expressive bass, give the self-produced album a surprising depth and range. If you're a fan of David Gray, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews, Ben Folds, or Joss Stone you'll find a lot here to like.
Tom dedicates the CD to the people and situations that inspired the songssituations that include everything from college wrestling to Catholic seminary. Tom grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and moved to DC in 2004 to pursue the priesthood. Things didnt go as planned, and the 25-year-old left religious life late last year, disillusioned yet eager to explore new directions.
Toms songs ask some tough questions: In what do you clothe your identity? What or whom would you be naked without? What would you sing about then?
