I love all things vintage, medical, strange and bizarre.
When I was a little girl I posessed an unhealthy obsession for clothing. I took example from the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Adam and the Ants and Boy George. My favorite outfit in 1984 was my hot pink parachute pants, white paint splattered shirt, miss-matched fluorescent socks, one black and one red converse shoe.
It should come as no surprise that this fevered lust for dress up has not passed. Only now my influences are Louise Brooks, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford and all the other starlettes of the 1920's, 1930's and 1940's, with a dark twist. I believe I am from another era trapped in the 21st century.
Luckily for me, this passion has grown into a career. After 4 years of visual arts study at SFU, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and then went to UBC to further my studies in theatre costuming. I currently work in the costume department as a Set Supervisor, Costume Truck Supervisor and Set Costumer for the local film unions I.A.T.S.E. and A.C.F.C.
When I'm not on set dressing actors, you can find me at home sewing corsets and other vintage inspired clothing. Go to my website to view the photo gallery of things I've made:Vintage Vamp ClothierOr maybe you can find me at a nearby park with 'my little man', my 4 year old pug named Panzer.
Music is definitly my other huge passion in life. If I'm not guest DJing synthpop, electro-industrial, new wave, or EBM at local club nights (Descent, Galaxion), I'll be there dancing. Malfunction recently went to sleep, but it will awaken soonly.Tattoos are another big part of who I am. I have many spiritual reasons for the tattoos I have. Afterall, they should be a representation of who you are.
I've always tried to be a unique individual and always will. Never expect to see my natural hair colour, and don't bother asking me what it is. It's been so long since I've seen it, I can't even remember!!
Finally, I'd have to say that my heroes are my Mom and Dad. My Mom because she was always there for me through my 14 years of competitive figure skating. She believed in me and gave me confidence and courage. My Dad because he taught me about astronomy, art, nature and spirituality. He helped me understand how important it is to love Gaia, be creative, express myself and to have the courage to go after everything I want in life. I have to thank them both for telling me not to be afraid of putting my whole heart into everything I do; including my love, support and devotion into anything or anyone who is in my life.
One final warning...
beware my vintage medical equipment... and my push pins.
