About Me

A back woods southern raised boy from southwest Missouri. A town called Rocky Comfort. If you've heard of it, I probably know your whole family! A musician from the word 'go' in this world. My Dad played in bluegrass bands and at local hootnanneys. Picked up a banjo when I was 6 and a guitar when I was seven. Pretty much taught myself how to play by trying things and watching folks. Learned just enough to get me in trouble.
I've had a lot of terrific luck in my life! I have met and befriended some awesome people - still workin on expanding that list - and I have had some musical achievements that some folks could only dream of. Myself included till they happened to me. I wrote a song that Kenny Rogers liked and put on a Christmas record. The song was 'A Soldier's King' and the album was "The Gift". I ended up getting the priviledge of hanging a gold record on my wall because Kenny sold 500,000 copies of that one.
I've had the honor of watching people that I know go after the proverbial 'brass ring' (record deal) in Nashville and get it. They are out there on the radio doing what we have been dreaming about for years - playing our music for folks and makin a living at it. I'm really proud of them for makin it!!
I get to sing for the United States Navy with the Navy's Premier Country and Bluegrass Band - Country Current in Washington, D.C. and have continued to write and record. I love my country and I love that I had the honor to serve, getting the privilege to do both lets me make a bigger mark on this 3rd rock.
I have a lot of space to fill between those two dates on my headstone before they tell me what the second one is...

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: KennyRayHorton.com
Band Members: What you hear on the records are players in Nashville, Tennessee. Bruce Gaitsch played guitars, Ian Wallace played drums, George Hawkins, Jr. played bass and sang backgrounds along with Janie Clewer, Russ Pahl played piano and I know I am leaving some folks out, but I'll come back and edit when I remember...I am actually pretty blown away to get to work with folks of this caliber. It amazes me...I feel truly priviledged...
Upcoming records will be including the members of Country Current if I can talk them into it. I have a feeling that won't be too hard though...
Influences: I'm influenced by what I think is great music with something to say that moves people emotionally. Granted - that changes with the time of day and what mood I'm in...hey I'm human...most of the time.

James Taylor, John Cougar Mellancamp, Garth Brooks, Jim Croce, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard - that is the best start I can give you right now on the many, many influences of me and my music.
Sounds Like: Kenny Ray Horton...give it a listen - you might dig it.
