Colorado Springs' Most Talented Bottom Feeder

About Me

(Note: I will be changing up the songs here every week. Something different from each album, so keep coming back. Also, a word about my music store. Whatever 4 songs I have posted are yours for free if you want them. Whole albums are 7.00, individual songs are either .50 or .80) Welcome to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Psudo-center of Christian America, Mecca of mediocrity, and birthplace of absolutely nothing. No great musical or social revolution will spring from this city. This is no Liverpool, no Seattle. So what an unlikely place to find a singer-songwriter such as Jeff Bowles. He looks like nobody else in this city, sounds like nobody else in this city. In fact he might as well not even come from this city. But maybe Jeff is like Colorado Springs in one respect. Maybe no musical or social revolution will spring from him. Maybe he's no John Lennon or Kurt Cobain, but then again . . .Jeff Bowles has his humble beginnings in a group of high school misfits called Hearing Impaired. They sucked. Or to put it another way, their ambitions were loftier than their talents or experience. Hearing Impaired achieved absolutely nothing except for being hated by their fellow teenagers and loved by everyone else (chock it up to playing Beatles tunes at every gig). The other thing they had going for them was their original material. Catchy, familiar, yet unique. These simplistic songs would eventually evolve into a cohesive sound: Jeff's sound. After Hearing Impaired split, Jeff (their Guitarist and vocalist), and Kyle Eicher (their bassist), pulled themselves together and set about the process of songwriting. The goal was not money or fame or even gigs, it was pure and simple fun. The duo (now called Audiophile) recorded and compiled their first songs into an EP that they called Hey Kids, Its Audiophile. Very few people ever listened to it, but it was liked among those who did. A second set of songs were written and recorded, but the unnamed album was never finished. Audiophile might have died there, their dreams and talents dissolving into a haze of THC and over the counter medication (shoplifted from the local market, thank you very much. Ah, teenagers). But one day the thought hit them Hey, lets record another album. A real honest to goodness album. In the summer of 2003, Audiophile set about writing and recording tracks in a little town called Manitou Springs, Colorado, the exact antithesis of the saccharine chaos of Colorado Springs. The sound of this new material was a stripped down version of their previous effects-heavy attempts. For the first time, Audiophile let the music speak for itself. The songs were put together and the album was named Manitou People, one song of which is available here for download (you lucky little monkeys). The following summer, Jeff moved to a trailer park (thanks a shitload MCIWorldcom) and he and Kyle began recording the follow up to "Manitou People". The goal this time was to record a modern, balls to the wall rock n rolly, smooth popy, effects heavy . . . y album. The result was "Life After Pain", one song of which are also here for download (well you must be the luckiest little monkeys I've ever seen). In addition to these two albums, a third was produced. Humble Begginings is a compilation of Hey Kids it's Audiophile and the unfinished album. Very soon after, real life caught up with Kyle (namely, a fiance' and a baby) and and for all intents and purposes Audiophile is no more. Jeff kicked around Colorado Springs' downtown district playing on the street, at Don Dooley's open mics, and even a gig here and there. Jeff also began recording a fourth album which is to be entitled The Beast Finds Love. He then took a few months off the whole music gig and applied himself to the whole relationship gig (he is now engaged to a wonderfull woman named Carrie). After a bit of soul searching however, Jeff has decided to get back into music and, in addition to finishing The Beast Finds Love and attending PPCC part time, he will hopefully be getting his own PA system and booking some more gigs around town. Stay tuned for more, same Jeff time, same Jeff channel. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
