Dance- obviously. Although I don't see nearly as many performances as I would like, I still obsess about finding the perfect tendu. Besides that- church (Eastern Orthodox). Also, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, flowers (daffodils and roses!), good wine, good food, picnics on the beach, travel (wish I could do more), swing dancing, decorating (and occasionally cleaning) my apartment, and most recently, re-discovering the joy of walking across a room. No matter how much we strive to achieve in dance, just being able to move is a gift that we shouldn't take for granted. It only takes one moment for that to be taken away.
I'd like to meet:
Friends- old and new.
People who are optimistic and cynical, outgoing and pensive, thoughtful and carefree, mature and child-like. People who aren't afraid of being themselves, no matter how irrational. I'm fascinated by what makes each individual unique, because that teaches me more about myself than perfection ever could.
Music:
iPods rule! What's on mine? It's pretty eclectic- Norah Jones, Bob Dylan, James Blunt, Snow Patrol, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Coldplay, Tom Petty, The Postal Service, John Mayer, Five for Fighting, Matchbox Twenty, Edith Piaf, Dirty Dancing, Jennifer Knapp, Caedmon's Call, Andy Monroe - and that's just the beginning.
Television:
I don't watch much TV, but I'm addicted to NBC's The Office. Sad but true. And no matter what anyone says- it's way better than the BBC version! Also, Desperate Housewives, Commander in Chief (don't laugh - I like it!), Sex & the City, and best yet, The Cosby Show! Did you know they still air two episodes 2-3pm every day on UPN?
Books:
Steinbeck's East of Eden- a classic that I've been meaning to reread. At the Corner of East and Now- religious reflections by Frederica Mathewes-Green. A Winter Marriage- if you stick through it, it'll stick with you. The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath- to anyone else who's ever felt that way, I'm here for you!
