KEITH WALKER
Take traditional country music like that of George Strait or Garth Brooks, add some of todays greats like Gary Allan or Toby Keith, and finally, throw in a bit of a southern rock and you will find Keith Walker. This talented young singer/songwriter knows that country is all about the joy and hurt that life has to offer. In order to get your audience to truly feel the music, you have to have been through some good times and a whole lot of heartache. You can say Ive had my ups and downs.
Born in Louisiana but raised in a small town off the coast of Los Angeles, Keith was immersed in the vast musical culture that California had to offer. His father, being a musician, began teaching Keith to play music before he could even reach his arms around a guitar. My father had always been the one to dish out the punishment, so when I started playing guitar, it became a way for us to get along. Keiths father not only taught him how to play country music, but he also introduced him to the legendary music of great songwriters like James Taylor, John Lennon, Van Morrison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
In the years to come, Keith also learned to play the trumpet. At the age of twelve, Keith Formed his first band with two other trumpet players. They were known as the Allegro Brass, playing fairs, birthday parties and memorial celebrations. I continued to play with the Allegro Brass until my father left when I was thirteen. He told me that even though he was leaving, he would leave his guitar collection for me. To this day he has no idea what that meant to me. So Keith went back to playing the guitar and began putting lyrics about his life to the melodies he was creating. By the time he graduated from high school, Keith was playing in local bars and began getting some notice as a country singer.
Noted producer Danny Sombello found Keith and said he would love to record him but knew that he could only take him so far, so he suggested that Keith make the move to Nashville. At the time, Keith had received a scholarship to Long Beach State University for Opera and did not want to give up his chance at an education. This is when troubles began piling up. Keiths professor told him to choose between country music and his scholarship, he broke up with his high school sweetheart, and while on his way to school one day, his truck blew a tire and flipped over several times on the freeway. For some reason I walked away from that accident without a scratch and I realized that someone was trying to send me a message, and that message made me Nashville bound.
Leaving behind his family, Keith Walker moved to Nashville with nothing but ambition and a dream. Determined to receive an education, Keith completed his college career at Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Music Business and a minor in Marketing. Today, Keith is very immersed in the Nashville scene. He is writing with numerous songwriters and recording new material for a full-length project. He can be seen performing at venues such as The Bluebird Caf, the Commodore Lounge, Douglas Corner, The Bluesboro, The Temptation Club and Walstreet. With all the passion and energy he puts into his music and performances, Keith has what it takes to be a huge star.
