About Me

Long Lost Home is the protest music of American singer/songwriter Joe Messanella. As an American living abroad I have been following events back home with a heavy heart.These songs are a reaction to the blatant misuse of 9/11 to plunge an unsuspecting nation into a war in Iraq that is proving devastating to my nation and a rude awakening to it's people! I Long for the America I left behind years ago , one that's respected and looked at in awe by the world. Though written back in 2005 , the songs are more relevant today than ever!"The 51st state" ( state of denial) sums up the "Bush" presidency. "a stooge willing to lie sending yours off to die" is one of the sure to become famous lines in the song ."The Truth" explores the true motivations for the Iraq War. Most have tired of this war of choice , but there's no easy way out and after all you have to go with the war you have."Won't the Truth rear it's ugly head" ..It has , and it is ugly."Zipcode" deals with the disconnect of the "home front warriors" who have no desire to serve , or sacrifice for this "war of choice", and are content to allow a small percentage of Americans pay the price for our leader's folly. It was no easy task , it took a special talent to be able to drive a super power into a deep sandy ditch , wheels spinning , unable to move forward or back out....

Influences:
I've always been lucky enough to enjoy all kinds of music , and my influences reflect this. Somewhere between James Brown and Jackson Brown , Doc Watson and John Coltrane , Steely Dan and Tom Waits , and finally and especially Muddy Waters , Elmore James and all the great slide guitar players I managed to develop my own writing style. I can write a song about anything I chose to most anytime I want to so I am very lucky in that regard. Being very disappointed by the lack of protest music directed against the Bush Administration I wrote a series of songs back in 2005 and although it took time for me to set up a studio at home and require the skills needed to produce independent music 3 songs are presented here and time allowing more will be uploaded to my website.
