Manifesto:The Edge is a place of transformation, a blurred line of metamorphosis, a space in which opposites meet and become the other. Close to the Edge Productions is a community of artists who inhabit this edge and the worlds on either side thereby transcending polarity and hierarchy by their very existence. Close to the Edge of obscurity and fame, poverty and wealth, obsolete technology and state of the art, old artistic forms and new genres, disappearing ways of life and those that are originating, a dying world and the world emerging in its ashes. Close to the Edge artists break ground and are rooted in social consciousness. We are pro black pro woman pro indigenous pro earth pro people of color pro third world pro the poor pro the youth pro the colonized pro queer pro working class pro underclass pro labor pro the dislocated/marginalized peoples of the world. Close to the Edge artists are writers musicians painters photographers filmmakers illustrators designers deejays singers poets rappers models actors stylists thinkers revolutionaries producers of multiple disciplines who utilize mass media not to assimilate into the dominant /pop culture, and not only to survive, but to ensure the survival and evolution of the larger communities and culture/s in which they originate, reside and represent.November 30th, 2006
