About Me
Discovered fashion purely by accident during a visit to India in the Fall of 2002, and call fashion design my current vocation. Before that you could find my twin sister and I re-spinning Indian myths vis-a-vis Bharatanatyam, an exquisite form of Indian classical dance, in university and museum settings across the United States. Somewhere in the mix and pre-fashion foray, I studied Indian film and performance history at the University of California, Berkeley, curated dance and film festivals, deejayed at UNC-CH's WXYC as an undergrad, and dropped out of a PhD program. My first designs were for our dance performances, and I soon found that they could be translated into a ready-to-wear line...All of my collections have featured fabrics sourced from Indian village cooperatives that have been assembled in fair trade factories. In Spring 2008, SHIFT BY SWATI, an organic cotton knit jersey line, will debut in stores across the country.Visit my website at www.swatiargade.com to learn more about me....
