Auckland electronic enthusiasts have something to feel excited about. Down the stairs, off dirty old K’ road, and in to Ink & Coherent they’re going for a shot of aural poison – where deep & melodic beats married with sick techno feats warp the dance floor leaving clubbers knee-deep in transcendent & sometimes melancholic sounds. They are loyally here for Frenchman Cyril Orson’s popular Soniktonik gig – a club night fast becoming known as a Nirvana for discerning club-goers.
Orson came to N.Z two years ago and has already made his mark on the New Zealand scene playing alongside the crème de la crème of international DJs blessing our shores (Kevin Saunderson, Mike Monday, Dirt Crew, 16 Bit Lolitas, DJ T, Stacey Pullen, Derrick Carter…) as well as the best of the New Zealand crop (Dick Johnson, Matt Drake, Philippa, Angela Fisken, Greg Churchill). These days, Orson is busy making Soniktonik a national gig (recently bringing the brand to Queenstown for Winter Fest), as well as co-producing other events (Republik, La Nuit) & running his brand new digital only record label, Triangle Music with Barton & Hayden Strom of Antix fame. Orson is known for his passion for the freshest sound and Triangle Music is a way he can share that.
The label, as well as hosting Orson’s production collaboration with Matt Drake & Fiord is also a template for Orson to showcase his love for electronic music ranging from immaculate, touching house music to darker, spookier techno beats with a distinct post-punk flavour.
