I've heard so much buzz about this site that I figured it was time for me to join. I've seen my pictures on so many pages in here..it's crazy. I created this page in Dec. 05'...so if you were chatting with someone before that, it wasn't me.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let me give you a proper introduction. Most people call me Ahni....Ahni Luv on occasion (I'll explain the difference in a minute). I've lived in the DC Metro area all my life and I LOVE IT!!! I've had the chance to travel all over the country, and it's given me a new found respect for the place I call home. This area is full of talented people and everyone seems to have their own flavor. And the music?...We have a lot of talented R&B artists in DC, but there's nothing like our GO-GO BANDS!!! Don't let the model chick image fool you...I used to Rough it Off with the best of 'em at the Ice Box...lol (I'm really showing my age). Though I've been tempted to move for the sake of my career, I've yet to make that big step.
I could tell you that I've wanted to be a model all my life, and now I'm living my dream....but that's not the case. My first love was sports...softball, volleyball...if it's competitive, I'm all for it. I was such a tomboy....I guess I still am in a way. This modeling thing seemed to happen almost over night. Not to say that I didn't pay my dues...it just seemed like everything happened so fast. I started modeling at car shows that summer and I really enjoyed it. In only a few months, I had hit almost every car show between here and NY. People would walk up to me and know who I was. It took some getting used to...but I liked the feeling. My first contest was for Honey Magazine. They went to 6 major cities and chose a finalist from each one. When they came here, 200 of our finest ladies came out to rep DC. When the smoke cleared, I was the last one standing. A month later I was given the title of Honey Magazine's model of the year!!!
My photo shoot for Honey went well. By that time, I was used to taking pictures, so everything seemed to flow. It was fashion week in NY, and after my shoot I had to walk in a fashion show for the designer Doll House. I saw 3 girls slip and fall in the show before mine. Now normally, seeing a grown woman fall on her ass would have given me some amusement...lol...but I was too nervous to laugh. There was a good chance that I could be the next victum of the runway. It was a packed house...Celebs, Photographers, Designers, you name it. I don't think I would call myself shy, but I'm not one who looks to be the center of attention...and this seemed like a little too much. I needed to find a way to make it happen, cause I would regret it if I punked out. So that day Ahni Luv was created. (Hey, if Beyonce can have Sasha...I can have Ahni Luv...lol) I found a way to step outside of myself so to speak. From that day on, whenever my nerves seem to get the best of me, Ahni Luv kicks in and makes it happen...lol Since then I've been featured in King as well as Smooth Magazine. I've been in numerous music video's including lead roles in R. Kelly's "Playa's Only" and Ricky Martin's "I Don't Care". My website (www.ahniluv.com) was created about 4 years ago, and it's given me a great way to interact with the world.
I'm always asked..."What are you working on now? What's next?"...(I hate that question...lol) Who knows...I never imagined being where I am right now, and I'm excited about whatever HE has instore for me. I'll keep you posted.
I've learned that this industry is a big hustle. My advice to stay successful, you have to be on your grind at all times...networking, marketing, learning how to read people. It's funny that smiling for the camera plays such a small role. I've created this page to make new friends, and stay intouch with old ones. It will also let you peak into the life of my alter ego...Ahni
