About Me

I am a textile artist, developing a Portfolio career in arts education. With help from the Prince’s Trust, I have set up my own business as a self-employed designer/maker. I am primarily a weaver (yes, yes heard ALL the yoghurt jokes!), but also specialise in print, felt making, rug tufting, basketry and silversmithing I create collections of hand-woven, dyed and printed textiles for contemporary interiors and clothing, as well as more conceptual installation pieces to be commissioned for display in galleries or other commercial spaces. Bespoke items are created to commemorate individual “rites of passage”, textile items to be be given at birth, death, marriage, and other personal ceremonies, weaving symbolic items, colours and imagery into hangings, cot mobiles, shawls and shrouds etc. An example of this can be seen in the images below, my "Talisman Wrap" which was created as part of a project for the British Craft Council.Alongside this personal service, I am also currently designing a range of sustainable fashion accessories. The inspiration for my work is nature and the environment and I try, wherever possible, to use natural, recycled materials. Whilst at college my 3rd year dissertation, "More than Cloth", explored spirituality in weaving and I became interested in the Navajo concept of "Hozho", where there is balance, harmony and interconnection between art, work and nature. I feel very strongly that this is a good principle to live by and I try to apply it to my own practice.Recurring themes within my work are colour, shimmering light, magic, memories and emotions. The aim of my designs is to provoke a calming emotional response, evoking feelings of reflection and harmony.
