My name is Chester Copperpot, named after the character in the infamous movie, The Goonies - by Steven Speilberg. You know, the man whose bones they find on their adventure path? As his name is said, Chesta Coppapot! If your a Goonies fan, then you know it. I am a five year old Bluetick Coonhound, aka Grand Bleu De Gascogne. I lead a pretty good life. I get my face washed every morning, vitamins every morning before my breakfast (yes, I get a breakfast bone), sleep all day on my parents' bed, eat like a king (but no junk food - nothing to make my belly hurt or make me unhealthy), visit my granny's house and get a ton of toys and treats. I once stole an entire Italian hoagie off the counter and ate it all! I have plenty of toys to keep me occupied, and a growing wardrobe. I know, I know, dressing dogs up is corny. But to be honest, I love it. I have been the Christmas card for the last three years! I love the publicity! I love Egg Nog (not that I get it, but when someone has it, I go BANANAS), milk (same scenario as the Egg Nog), really any human food, and sleeping under my parents covers. The human I resemble the most is definitely Al Pawcino. I love running around, especially when Daddy chases me. I am a lucky dog. Mommy and Daddy LOVE animals. For their wedding, they have made donations to the ASPCA in lieu of favors! I say puppy prayers for homeless animals everywhere. If only people could adopt more animals! Funny Quote: "Dogs bark at the mailman every day because, to the dog, it has a 100% success rate. Mailman comes, dog barks, mailman leaves. Dog wins."..Why Dogs Don't Live As Long As People...................................................... ......................................................... Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year- old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very much attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, ...so they don't have to stay as long." ~Author Unknown~
