THE MEDITATIONS (above left),
consisting of (l-r) Winston "Son Ites" Watson,
Ansel Cridland and Danny Clarke have remained
one of Reggae music's greatest, most respected,
and longest-running harmony trios/groups in history.
They have been together since 1974, and aside
from making hits by themselves with Channel One,
Upsetter, and Tuff Gong, they also provided
harmonies for some of the biggest records from
Bob Marley & The Wailers, Jimmy Cliff,
Junior Murvin, and Gregory Isaacs
In the early part of January 2008,
singer/songwriter DADDY LION CHANDELL (above right) was called upon
to be the third-part harmony for the group
(filling in for original Meditation DANNY CLARKE)
and began his journey with them during their
February 2008 Midwest Tour, which ran from February 15-24, 2008.
Daddy Lion Chandell is honored to be a part of this
unprecedented institution of cultural music
and sends I-ternal blessings to DANNY CLARKE
of whom the legacy of The Meditations
could not have been complete without.

(now affectionately known to the band as "Danny Luciano"*)

ROOTS DYNAMIC SOUNDSYSTEM
Protecting The Original Voices Of Culture Daddy Lion Chandell is a veteran music/entertainment historian, radio disc jockey, graphic artist, deejay/selector, performer, and activist.
Known in many circles as either "The Roots Warrior",...
..."The Professor", or "the original underground soldier" (and in some rare instances "The Dread Skinhead" (as in REGGAE Skinhead, of course), Daddy Lion has led the charge for years for the respect of the underground (way before there finally became a full-fledged "underground scene"), for the preservation of media arts (classic television, motion picture company logos, etc.), for the utilization of art as a tool for upliftment, inspiration, and expression, for the worldwide unification and empowerment of Nubian, Isrealite, and African people (Earth's original dwellers), and most notably the worldwide unification of men and women, of which he ultimately and passionately calls for a PERMANENT END to the "War Of The Sexes" -- an issue he has been actively working toward for almost two decades.
As a journalist/historian...
...Chandell took his passion for the underground and his vast knowledge of the industry and, in 1995, put it into his own operation, DLC IndustryWatch ® , which was responsible for publishing the local New York newsletter, "deep in the nooz" TM (Hip-Hop/R&B/"Urban"), and the short-lived "deep in the Club" (House/Disco/Club). Throughout his journey, he would cover many different stories of various artists in all genres of music in the underground and in the mainstream. His vigorous hustle throughout the industry gained "deep in the nooz" a decent chunk of respect throughout the late 1990s, leading him to become Editor of the webzine BLACK HOLE, and Editor-In-Chief of UNDERGROUND XPOSURE, both now long-defunct. Today, the DLC Information Group operation has expanded into a vast community of media historians, video producers, and graphic artists.
As a performer...
...a recording artist, and devoted Souljah of the Reggae scene -- with a high emphasis on rich harmonies, melodies, and basslines and a low tolerance for watered-down powerless music -- he was (as he remains today) a regular deejay with the well-known Black Redemption Sound (fronted by Electric Dub/Roots connoisseur Ras Kush) as well as one of the last regular deejays with partner Selektah Twice at the Easy Star Reggae Tuesdays, NYC's LONGEST-RUNNING Reggae party -- 7 years, at the former Black Star Bar in the East Village which closed in early 2004. He continues to vibe with Black Redemption Sound strong-ly every Sunday at Sin Sin -- the upper room of The Leopard Lounge across the street for Universal Sundays.
Daddy Lion has performed with...
...the likes of Congo Ashanti Roy, Glen Adams (of The Upsetters), Susan Cadogan (of "Hurt So Good" fame), Milton Henry (Upsetters/Wackie's artist), Judah Eskender Tafari, Kevin Batchelor (of The Skatalites), Cedric "IM" Brooks, Dub Champions, Sister Nancy, Fireproof (who eventually would perform together with Daddy Lion at the legendary CBGB's in April 2004), The Rudie Crew, King Django, Jammyland All-Stars, and ultimately as lead vocalist of True Love International.
Daddy Lion currently records and performs with...
...Subatomic Sound System, and has been featured on Easy Star All-Stars' 2006 album project, Radiodread, the follow-up to the 2003 smash hit Dub Side Of The Moon, as well as having recently recorded with the sensational Marcia Davis & Outro.
Daddy Lion Chandell is the host...
...of Universal Sundays at Sin Sin/The Leopard Lounge, presented by Sal P., who originally presented the blessed cultural event to NYC's famed Lion's Den in the late 1990s...
...and was, along with fellow Dancehall artist and friend Treasure Don, the former host of Dubwise Sessions the monthly event at Williamsburg's cool spot Studio BPM presented by Bastard Jazz. As well as running Roots Dynamic and vocalizing with Black Redemption, Daddy Lion is also one of the original founding members of the Kevlartone Sound, with whom he is still affiliated.
As a selector and veteran indie/college radio disc jockey...
...Daddy Lion -- who grew up religiously since birth on the music and the ambiance of UK-based foundation Reggae powerhouse labels Trojan Records and what used to be Pama Records -- is the drive behind the Roots Dynamic Soundsystem, who's devoted to the original foundation and origins of true Reggae music as well as the roots of its blessed offspring, Hip-Hop. A long-time, major catalyst for Reggae and Hip-Hop, DLC (who at one time was known as R.G. [rapologist guardian]), holds a personal responsibility of keeping people informed and educated of true meanings and aspects of Black music--both negative and positive--thus standing firm with persistence to protect the Culture by whatever means necessary.
It is this same mindset and approach with which he has held steadfast with and for Nubian music and culture today through the years and which he has carried over into all his work including the Roots and Foundation newsguide WAKE THE TOWN, the Reggae spinoff of "deep in the nooz", which was first released in print on December 15, 2001, and was ultimately inspired by the acquisition of Trojan Records by Sanctuary Records Group in July 2001, of which the story was launched as the FIRST ISSUE of "WAKE THE TOWN" . From there, the WAKE THE TOWN! website has a devoted section to the current activities and the long-running legacy of Trojan Records called "The Trojan Files" .
For a taste of the Roots Dynamic Soundsystem, you can listen to exclusive MP3 mixes, featuring sweet Roots and Foundation rarities, classics, hits of yesterday and today at the Halcyon The Shop website.
