Reuben, aka Rú is fairly new on the Drum & Bass scene, having spent most of his adolescence away from electronic music, concentrating on classical piano and picking out riffs and leads from his favourite bands on a beat up yamaha guitar.
Playing in a number of local indie bands, such as Ayumi* and The Moominpoppers, he was introduced to warp records and the art of sound synthesis, and started producing glitchy electronica and techno on any equipment he could get his hands on.
After producing experimental electonic music for a number of years, notably his Demographix 7 EP, he turned his ear to Drum & Bass in 2005, and it started to influence his compositions.
His new EP, Mythology, will be available soon. Still citing bands such as Sigur Rós, Radiohead and Mogwai as his major influences, Rú's latest tracks tend towards a dark ambient atmosphere, punctuated by rolling drums and driving basslines, with a somewhat glitchy, electronica edge
As well as producing, he enjoys mixing drum & bass on the wheels of steel, and doing electronica laptop sets. He currently resides in Nottingham, where he hosts a Drum & Bass radio show for URN (University Radio Nottingham), and studies Electronic Engineering.
As well as dabbling in music, Rú is a fire performance artist, and an avid unicyclist.
