Born and Raised in Orange County California, I Started playing guitar at age 15. After for playing for three years, I seriously injured my hand while working at the Fender Guitar warehouse in Brea, California. I had to re-learn the guitar all over again now and focus on other aspects of guitar playing besides speed.
I become a blues guitarist and started the Bad Mama Jamas with my best friend Pete Chiappinelli. As the years passed I started writing songs and learning how to play bass, drums, and keys in order to demo my own songs entirely. Pete and I started work on our album "highway 10" in 2000. Two years later we had our band of original hard rock with a soul edge. Highway Ten ran it's course with limited success (but with the respect of area musicians) and was put to rest in July 2006. Recently I played some gigs on bass with Katana Mantra (www.myspace.com/katanamantra) and wrote some songs with 59h20 (take a wild guess).
I am currently hard at work writing new material for a new band "The Matt Koon foundation", please check it out at www.myspace.com/mattkoonfoundation. I've been working on this the last 4 months and I have written a bunch of new songs, and almost have everyone I need. I have assembled the finest band possible. Rob, Nate, and Adam made the "Matt Koon Foundation" a reality. The band is instrumental rock..Jimmy page meets Joe Satriani. I will keep all who are interested apprised of all developments on this journey through my blog.
I live in mechanicsville, Virginia with my beautiful wife, my son, Matt Fn Koon Jr. and three ungrateful horribly old dogs.
I teach bass, guitar and piano at Mechanicsville Music to over 60 awesome students, and am very proud of the work that I do with them, and all that they have accomplished.
I hope to share my musical journey through life.I love writing songs and playing music, period. I also like to talk alot.
