The Knott were born in Swindon when an advert asking for a bass player to fill the sound that, at that time, was being created by Lee Knott (vocals), Andy Dickinson (guitars) and Sam Bailey (drums) was answered by Matt Keeble.
Following the band's second outing Sam decided that things weren't going in the right direction for him and quit. Thankfully, a good friend of Lee's, James “Jim Jim†Eddings stepped in on drums for a short period and helped the band out at a couple of gigs over the Summer of 2006.
When Andy got back from the war in November, we set about trying to find a new drummer. Matt called his old friend Roy Baker and invited him to come along to the rehearsal studio for a jam. Roy arrived fully prepared to leave after about an hour but found himself still playing 4 hours later. He'd pretty much decided to join the band by the end of the jam and rehearsals and writing sessions began in earnest.
Lee & Matt set about arranging gigs around Swindon straight away and during the first half of 2007, The Knott played at some of the best venues around the town including 12 Bar, The Vic, Riffs Bar and Winners Lounge.
During the Summer, the pace really picked up and a series of appearances and bookings throughout July, August and September – including 2 festival appearances – have really helped bring The Knott to the attention of music fans around the West Country and beyond.
Now, armed with their debut EP, Get Knotted, which is available at all of their gigs and will soon be available online, they're set to take the world by storm and are looking further towards Oxford and London and of course Lee's home town, Manchester, for gigs in the latter part of 2007.
Come 2008? Who knows what will happen, but we're having a laugh and enjoying the fact that people seem to like the tunes.
