About Me:
I'm currently an advanced grad student in political science, though my academic interests cover a wide range of topics and change over time. I guess it could be said that I am a dilettante, but I take no offense as I'm rather proud of it.Ideally I would be a professional student, but I know that's not possible (at least not for me). Next best thing is to occupy myself in such a way that my mind is busy with a project - be it creative or critical/analytical ... or both ....

I love animals and have a houseful of pets! Through I can appear to be very shy and/or too serious, with the right people around I am friendly and almost....almost.... outgoing. Not quiet, but close. :)

Oh, and one of my favorite quotes is "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." That pretty much describes a good portion of my political philosophy.Yannet is happiest when her mind is busy

General

I'd like to meet: Anyone I could admire, including: the intellectual, the good looking, the cool, the artistic, the unique, the unusual, the angst-ridden (especially of the political kind), the knowledge hungry, those who want to change the world.
Books: The literary classics; some poetry (Cesar Vallejo, Pablo Neruda); works of political theory, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, history, economics. Oh, yeah, and Ramona the Pest! Seriously! Love it! :)
Music: Currently I'm mostly interested in non-pop music, such as some folk or folk-ish (Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Creech Holler, etc); and "world" (particularly South American folk/protest; Afro-Peruvian; and Brazilian jazz, samba and capoeira music). I do like some bands that have been popular in the past (Radiohead, the Cure, the White Stripes, and the Beatles for example), as well as the music of my myspace "friends," especially those with unique sounds.
Movies: Reds, Sergei Eisenstein's October, Matewan, Jean Renoir's La Marseillaise, Quills, Walk the Line, Boys Don't Cry, Camila, La Vita e Bella, The Pianist, Europa Europa, Run Lola Run, The Edukators, Goodbye Lenin, Joyeux Noel, Into the Wild, Amadeus, Immortal Beloved, etc.
Other: Ballet was my obsession long ago, and I still love it today. I have a special appreciation for the Vaganova method, and thus find the Russian ballet particularly impressive. I also love photography and other fine arts, some anime (particularly Candy Candy and Lady oscar - a.k.a., Rose of Versailles; and will be watching Nana soon! Yay! ), and the idea of being multilingual.
