3 3 love and respect to my sis for hookin this picture up..My HobbyAbout 8 years ago I started a book and it has since become my hobby, which I would like to describe to you. I take a journal with me in my everyday travels to clubs, concerts, schools, special events and even to the grocery store. Pretty much wherever you find me, you will find a book. The number of books keeps increasing, as well as the people introduced to it, but the overall concept still remains the same, just add your two cents when it comes around, then pass it on or get it back to me. Artwork, poetry, confessions, dreams, and schemes all lie within the pages. The first step in the process is to go into a book store and select a journal or a sketchbook to use. Then I figure out a contributor that will design the cover art. Some people I have enough faith in to just give them a book, and let them go to town and do their thing with the cover. There are some individuals I trust to do the cover design, and others I will sit down and collaborate with to make sure the cover art is cool, and pops with a style all its own to make it unique and give it some character. When it comes time for me to break that book out, I make sure the artist makes the first entry, after that I try to find a new person to jump start the books rotation. That book then will accompany me on my adventures wherever they may lead. To get the entries, it’s as simple as walking up to someone and asking them to contribute something. Sometimes I’ll have to go into a whole spiel about what the concept is. Friends as well as associates are already predisposed to the books. Thus they will automatically harass their friends to get them to write or draw in the book. Some people get off lucky and were already forewarned about my hobby. The books make their own way around, often without my help. After the book is full I will set it aside, then read through it, gather the important information and last I stick it with the other ones. Currently I’m on my hundred and thirteenth book in my collection.
As I stated earlier, my hobby has taken on a life of its own. I have been informed of possible interest in displaying or exhibiting the books as an art form of life today. Meaning now I have to figure out what future I envision for my books as well as myself. By my book being seen as an art form and myself as the artist, I have the opportunity to apply for certain types of art grants, which leaves me to figure out the ins & out of the grant writing. I also have to write a summary of what my books contain and prepare a presentation for the grant people.I find it amazing where a hobby can lead you. If all else fails though, I still will here have the books as a record of my endeavors and memories, and on can’t put a price tag on the.
