Music - played the drums in rock bands in my younger years :) ; Cars - love to hop in my Rx8, step on the pedal and feel the acceleration of raw rotary power. Love the outdoors, Enjoy watching and playing sports - Baseball, Tennis, Football. But my favorite thing to do is meeting new people. Love to make new friends and just hang out with them.
People that are interesting. We don't all have to walk the same path to understand the journey. I like people that are open. Life is too short to be closed off to new experiences, new places and new people. In my estimation, there are 3 kinds of people:
My musical tasts are fairly diverse. I like classic rock bands like Def Leppard, Scorpions, etc. But I also enjoy a lot of the current bands such as Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, 3 Days Grace, Linkin Park, and Papa Roach. But man does not live by Rock & Roll alone, I've been know to listen to Cool Jazz, R & B and Classical.
I like all genres, but in particular, I enjoy science fiction and horror films. Saw a rather interesting one on cable recently - "The Final Cut". Its about a time in which men have implants that record every moment of their lives - the ugly and the touching. The main character is a "Cutter". He basically edits the memories into a short film for the family. Check it out - very interesting.
I used to watch a lot of reality shows, not so much anymore. However, I do have one vice, much to the chagrin of my girlfriend - American Idol. I just like watching this extremely talented group of young people and how the American people react to them. Beyond that, I like dramas such as the Sopranos and Big Love. I'm not sure why, but I have always been fascinated by spiritual things, especially those that cannot be seen. In this same vein, I really enjoy the show Medium. I'm not usually one for medical dramas, but my girlfriend has me hooked on the show House. The main character is the kind of guy that you love to hate!
I really don't read many books for pleasure, mostly work. The last books I read were the Lord of the Rings series. I loved the first film so much that I had to read the books - I tore right thru them! I've decided to start doing more things for myself and one of those is to read for pleasure. I am currently reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I have just started the third book (of seven I believe) and I'm really enjoying it.
Update - I have finished the complete Dark Tower series, yes, all seven of them! Me and my girlfriend did it together, which made it a lot of fun. We would constantly talk about the books and use phrases from them out in public - I'm sure people thought we were weird! Thankee Sai, I need a popkin!
Most recently I read "Getting Things Done" by David Allen. It presents many techniques for improving one's productivity, not just in your professional life, but personal as well. I have implemented some of the techniques, but there is so much going on in this book that I will give it a second read and really get serious about implementing all of his recommendations.
As far as reading for pleasure, hmmm - my next one will probably be something from Stephen King. Raine keeps telling me about all these books I need to read - it will probably take the rest of my life to get thru them all! LOL
I would have to say first and foremost my father. He was a great man and a great example. I lost him when I was 24, which was a real bummer. After that, I admire people in public service - especially those people that put their life on the line for us everyday, such as Police Officers and Fire Fighters.
Finally, my girlfriend - Baby Girl Raine is one of my heroes. She has not had an easy life and has been through many hardships. But through it all, she has never lost hope, she has endured and thrived. She is a great example of what a modern, independent woman should be.
