"He became a god amongst mortal men" Alexander the Great
Steve Harris, Born March 12th, 1956 and founding member of heavy Metal Legends Iron Maiden has, for over 30 years kept the spirit of metal alive, and ensured his band has earned their place in music history
There are not many metal bands that have not been influenced by Maiden's harmonies, lyrics, and galloping rhythms. Most work of Steve Harris, from Killswitch Engage to Trivium to Metallica, This man has personally influenced me as a Bass player, being a self taught player himself, he created a style completely of his own his trademark gallop has become a staple in many a song, he has taught me to play each and every show like its your last. even in his 50s his energy on stage amazes me, and i wish to emulate this magnificent person in my live performance, as well as in my capabilities as a song writer.
From Harris, more than anyone else, that the Bass guitar is not just for keeping the pace of the song, it canbe used to push the song forward, to pull it back. for me there is not many other bass players that are able to create bass lines that pulse with spontaneous complexity, whilst at the same time being able to stay within the boundaries of the song to make it a truely beautiful thing to listen to
He is my hero.
"I love him, with all, as a son should to mother and father" The Crowing
Claudio Sanchez, born March 12th 1978, the same date as Steve Harris, is a very interesting character, obviously very intellegent, with his band, Coheed & Cambria, he has created a sci-fi concept that takes place within the music and the lyrics of all of their albums.
Despite being the lead singer of the band, he is reported to be a shy person. This i can relate to myself, I myself am quite introverted, but when needed during a show, i can give more than my all. In he same manner of Sanchez, his style of singing and the concept of his lyrics provide me with an additional inspiration for writing lyrics, not every song has to be about worn out cliches about love and rock.
His style of singing puts him in a league of his own and his skills on guitar are obviously something to think about, for me the skill in a songwriter is not just his ability to endlessley shred your guitar till it breaks, rather to make your guitar sing in conjunction with every other aspect of the band for the music to work.
He is my hero.
