I guess this is the proverbial test that "If your life was a book would anyone read it?" Well, here it goes...
Part I - Where I've Been
With the exception of the first 4 years of my life, I have lived in "The South" pretty much my entire life. I was born in Cincinnati, OH and lived there until I was 4 years old. My family then moved to Dothan, AL where I started school and attended a different school every year through 2nd grade. My father was a preacher and school teacher/administrator so I attended whatever school he was working for. Between 2nd and 3rd grade, we moved to Athens, AL where I attended Athens Bible School from 3rd to 7th grade. Between 7th and 8th grade we moved to Lexington, KY where I attended 8th grade (Beaumont Middle School), High School (PLD), and College (Transylvania University).
Let me take a minute to interject a little free advice for anyone planning on having children... Get them involved and keep them involved in some sort of team sport/activity. I played baseball for 13 years. Through all of the moves, new schools, and new neighborhoods... atheletics was the universal language that quickly had me making new friends. In the case of my sisters it was marching band. Moving and having to make new friends can be a very stressful situation for children so I would highly encourage anyone planning on having children to heed this advice.
Ok, back to the story... After I graduated from Transy, with a Computer Science degree, I married a Transy AOTT and took a position with IBM (which stands for I'll Be Moving... Itty Bitty Money... or International Business Machines all depending on who you listen to) where I was then moved to Raleigh, NC... go figure. I actually live in Cary, but no one knows where that is so I just reference Raleigh. I've now been with IBM for 5 years (I have been moved to 4 different offices within that 5 years, so you figure out which acronym really fits).
Part II - What I've Done
As I already mentioned, I played baseball for 13 years. In all honesty, I played any sport I could. I enjoy playing basketball, softball, volleyball, working out, golfing, playing tennis, throwing darts, shooting pool, target shooting... you name it, I've probably played it or would love to learn how. I have also been involved in Martial Arts for many years. I earned a 1st Degree Brown belt in Tracy's Kenpo Karate studying under Steve Finn while I lived in Lexington. There are no Tracy's studios in NC so I have been working on a way to continue my training remotely.
After having been laid off from my first full-time job (ecampus.com) and having to relocate to work for IBM, I decided that I was not going to be controlled by my job and that I was not going to put all of my eggs in one basket, so I went into business for myself. I still work at IBM, but I much more excited about my business. I basically teach people how to make money using the internet. It's awesome! Due to the success of my business, I expect to be retiring from IBM at age 29... free to live life on my terms! I can't wait!
Part III - Where I'm Going
I don't know where the future will take me. I'm thankful for every day the Lord blesses me with and am excited knowing that "the best years of my life" are still ahead of me. To all that have read my story this far, I wish you all the best of what life can bring. Thank you for sharing this trip down memory lane with me. God bless!
