About Me

ERA TERAS is a very loose translation for "Earth Monster" in old Latin. Although other unintended translations seem appropriate as well: Time of the Earth...etc. Era Teras is the brainchild of Raven Tenderfoot. Raven sings, plays guitar, bass, & drums. As well as engineers on most of the recordings. Other guest musicians have include: Matt Stivers, Paul Gregory Briggs, & Gingis Malloy. Era Teras released the first album in 2003. The 2nd album, "Light Harmonics Engineering" has remained unfinished to this day, but worked excellently as soundtrack music for short films & TV shows. Era Teras then recorded tracks for the 3rd album, "Taking the World by Storm...Leaving like a Thief in the Night." in New Zealand. Era Teras goes back into the recording studio early 2008. Raven is currently seeking mutable musicians to play locally in Asheville. Raven is quoted as saying "Right now, with the exception of a few tropical destinations, I have no desire to travel. I am happy to reside in Asheville, NC because it attracts people from all over the world. These mountains are among the oldest on earth. They even protected our soil during the ice age, leaving an abundance of life. The forests here are so inviting. And I only realized how spoiled we are to have the Blue Ridge Parkway once I travelled to New Zealand and "freedom" camping was illegal. People live half the year in these mountains without paying a penny on rent. And the spring water here is totally alive! The fact that here lies a small town surrounded by such majestic mountains on ground so ancient that it is literally a giant crystal, has to be experienced to understand. Asheville is a place where anyone from anywhere would benefit an adventure to. And I hope to be part of that experience by performing locally on a regular basis for an admission price that ranges from the cost of a glass of beer to, at most, a restaurant dinner." Swim~On

Influences: "I really love Jack Johnson. Putting on a Jack Johnson album is a direct channel to Hawaii. I can really sense the majority of his latest album was recorded in California. I was a bit sad at first, as Jack Johnson has been like a mini-vacation in my mind. But I can always throw in his "Between the dreams" album or Curious George. "Sleep thru the static" is definitely current. And in a way, it's reassuring to hear someone so pure expressing such a similar perspective to my own. On the other hand, I also have a soft spot in my heart for the band TOOL. I am really thankful for the path they are pioneering. Not just in the complicated melodies and rhythms...but also in the state of the art record engineering. At a time when most music is turning towards convenience and "flavor of the moment," TOOL is really holding steadfast and demonstrating the ability of precision musical instruments driven at the peak of their power. If Maynard was singing about metaphysical abilities of the mind as if he has already mastered them, I think a whole new generation of super-beings would emerge in our children. Utilizing 70% of the brain instead of a mere 11%."

So you wanna play odd time poly rhythms eh?

A real simple way to get into odd time is by talking long walks. Count each step as 1,2,3. And every time you count 1, extend your step out a little further than normal walking steps. It will give you...
