AHLEN / NRW – With their mixture of punk- and alternative rock, peppered with calm, balladesque tones up to weirdest shoutings MY BROKEN ENEMY are cruising around the country since 2004. Beside concerts for national known bands and abidances on top of the “Eastpak Resistance Charts” the band was now - after several demos and split-CDs - ready to record a second album.
But for Steve, Basti, Matze, Artur and André, it’s always been about the music, and there’s always been a message in the music for those who were really listening. The new full length album CITY OF VILLAINS is a concept album and tells the story of a young guy called “the innocent” moving up from the country to the large city “city of villains”. “The innocent” (a shy and naïve country person) becomes by the want not to be alone and under the influence of typical urban kids and gangs a big city person - and distances himself from his old friends.
“I’ve moved to a large city two years ago and for sure, the innocent has some of my own traits” says Steve who wrote the whole album in summer 2007. “But for me, everything went great. I knew there some people who relieved me the start so much. This was the point when I thought, what would have happened, if there weren’t all those friends. It’s been something like a cultural shock. What would have been, if I’d been on my own. This was actually the point, when I met my own “the innocent””, tells Steve.
When Steve finished writing the album, the band started to put his ideas into action. “We enlarged the band through two new faces to achieve the sound we were looking for.” MY BROKEN ENEMY knew André from the band they toured with in 2007 and Bastian met Artur when he was looking for a guitarist for an acoustic project.
After one and a half year of working on the new album, they are finally ready to recapture the worlds stages.
CITY OF VILLAINS full length album was released in summer 2008.
