XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX More about Da lady Mystik XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Mystik was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was born into a family of musicians and singers. She followed in her father’s footsteps and developed a keen love for music. She wrote her first song at the age of ten and began singing at about the same time. Mystik has sung in and around the city of New Orleans for several years. She has graced the stage of the world famous Tipitina’s Club in New Orleans. Any body, who is striving to be somebody in the music industry in New Orleans, has to entertain the crowd at Tipitina’s in order to make a name for them selves. She lived in New Orleans until Aug 29, 2005 and relocated to Cedar Hill, TX with her family after Hurricane Katrina flooded her beloved home town. While in Texas, she dived in to the cultural scene and spent a great deal of time writing, performing and trying to provide a normal life for her children. Mystik returned to Kenner, Louisiana in 2006 feeling the need to come home and help with the rebuilding, coping and healing process of her community. She felt that her skills as a social worker were needed in New Orleans where she could assist in helping her neighbors; her community, her self and her city bounce back. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Mystik works as a Health Educator in the New Orleans area in the field of HIV Prevention Education for at risk women. She conducts group sessions at varies locations around the city to educate women and youth on this pandemic. She is also a certified trainer for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention to train others to facilitate the SISTA Project HIV Prevention Intervention. This intervention is a culturally structured curriculum that brings about self worth and basic health education for women who may other wise not get the information. She also does motivational speaking engagements in and around the city on varies topics to help up- lift and empower women and educate on women’s issues. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX In Jan. 2005, she had her very first article published in Hip Hop Teen Magazine, which was a local magazine for teens in the New Orleans area. In this article entitled The Changing face Of HIV, she brought HIV awareness to the fore front of her outreach activities with teens. Mystik has also taking her message into high schools and on college campuses conducting HIV Prevention presentations and workshops. She enjoys working in her community as well as educating people in general to provide opportunities and avenues for regular folk to make informed choices about the paths they choose in life and this message is laced through out the body of her work. This is her testimony and that of other women that she has come into contact with to share her experiences and her life’s struggle; she is defiantly a new and fresh voice/ poet/ author to be watched.
