Coming Soon... Details of Broadway's Next Big Thing: You'll Laugh, You'll Die!

About Me

I like to write. I used to want to grow up to be a soap opera writer, but the soaps wouldn't have me. Then I tried screenplays. Writing them took forever, and although I even wrote one that was sort of "The Philadelphia Story," "All About Eve" and Pedro Almodovar in a blender, still, nothing. Next I picked back up something I had done when I was a wee lad -- writing lyrics -- and lo and behold, it turned out that that was the kind of writing I was good at. Sure, I recently wrote a series of children's stories that I thought were terribly clever but nobody wanted, but lyrics... that's my thing. Which is odd because I can't sing or play any instrument more complicated than a toaster. Luckily, there are fellas in the world like UK boy band Billiam that can sing, and like the dickens, no less. Here they are, performing a hit-to-be that I co-wrote called "The Beautiful Ones"...

My Interests

Music. Kitchen experiments. Music. Moving and shaking. Oh, and when I have time, music.

I'd like to meet:

People who live, breathe, eat and sleep music. No, wait... just people who live, breathe and eat music. People who live, breathe and eat music never really sleep.

Music:

Everything from Rob Zombie to Rufus Wainwright, from Kylie Minogue to Shelby Lynne, from Jesse McCartney to Leonard Cohen. You get the picture. Favorite song ever (don't judge me!):

Movies:

First, my all-time favorite movie, Night of the Comet, starring my favorite actress (seen as cheerleader/DJ Sam in this trailer). To know her is to love her...Also Jaws, Showgirls, All About Eve, Gilda, The Philadelphia Story, Being Julia, Ginger Snaps, Strictly Ballroom, Night of the Living Dead and the movies I see in my head based on the screenplays I wrote. If I could only get Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney to attend even one of the screenings I hold in my head, I'm sure the romantic dramedy I wrote for them would get greenlit.

Television:

South Park, Iron Chef, The Office, Ugly Betty, Project Runway, Top Model, Elvira's Movie Macabre and, of course, I'll never quite let go of Santa Barbara. I was even lucky enough to get Roberta Weiss, who played Flame, to appear in the short film I produced. Here she is in a montage in which her character, a desperate actress, is forced to audition for a toothpaste commercial in every conceivable way:

Books:

Any of The Three Miss Margarets books by Louise Shaffer, anything with a monster in it by Edward Lee or a sea creature in it by Peter Benchley. And my kids' stories. So what if publishers never beat down my door or even so much as politely knocked -- I still think they are right clever, and so do my cousins' kids. Of course they also think it's clever to drink soda through their noses.

Heroes:

Anybody who manages to make it through the day laughing instead of crying... anybody who is true to their word and speaks few of them... anybody and everybody who is kind to animals.
